Starter Suggestions? Empty Starter Suggestions?

Post  Fast Fox August 27th 2009, 7:56 pm

Well i'm about to get my fox lined out but keep running into snags. My csr starter took a poop on me this evening. Pulled it and bench tested all it does is kick out but will not turn same thing it did on car and draws amazing amounts of current and gets hot quickly Mad So what do you guys suggest 557 with 13:1 compression I am a budget minded guy but don't want to go too cheap and buy junk!

Definately specify auto trans. There are IIRC 3 different applications and the one for a manual will not work.

Part Number appears to be F2TU-11131-BA. Can someone please confirm.

"BA" Suffix is important! The "CA" is for Manual Transmissions.

I got mine from fleabay from a place called dbelectrical. Paid $50, which was much cheaper than geting it from the local Napa. Here's a link to the auction if you want it:

Starter Suggestions? Empty Starter nose length

Post  gdyck64 January 9th 2010, 9:02 pm

Is there a difference in nose length between the auto and manual sarters? I have a manual transmission model and it does not extend far enough or engage deep enough in the flywheel, it just catches the tips of the teeth. The depth from the starter attachment face to the leading edge of the flywheel is about .850". I have a Lakewood scattershield, any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if there is any difference between the manual and auto starters. But I do know the late model starters don't work with a lakewood bellhousing. The drive gear is offset away from the flywheel to far. The early model starters work good with a Lakewood.

Starter Suggestions? Empty It runs!!!!

Post  gdyck64 January 10th 2010, 10:25 pm

I put an old style starter on and it sounds great and I was able to start the engine for the first time. It is a 557 SCJ in an FFR roadster, sounds great. Thanks for the help.
