Cool video from work.
I was digging through my camera and found this short video I took at work a few months ago. It's a video of a Sikorsky S-92 taking off from the helipad on one of our ships at work.

I remember flying helicopters when I worked supply boats in the Gulf, we used to say "fly and die with PHI" everytime we had to fly one of their choppers. It seemed like one a week ended up crashed somewhere in the Gulf! You just crossed your fingers and hoped for the best.

I flew many of PHI flights and never cared for it. Something to do with the phrase "fly by PHI, die by PHI" just never struck me very well.

Re: Cool video from work.
I hear you on the flying. Nowadays to fly offshore you are required to take a HUET (Helicopter Underwater Egress Training) course and re-up it every 3 years. Basically they teach you how to escape from a ditched chopper.... I've done the course twice. Just re-upped my cert a month or so ago. The thought of doing it in real life is scary, but it's a part of life I guess. Flying on that big S-92 wasn't as bad as one of the little Bell's...
Bruce, what else do you fly besides the F-16? And don't say the Mustang...

John,
No Mustangs; at least not the ones with a prop out front
I've got time in the T-38 Talon, F-4 Phanton and F-16. Have time in a lot of little "puddle jumpers" that I fly with my private license.
I don't think I could fly a helicopter; "auto rotation" is NOT something i would like to do. I really do admire anybody who drives a helicopter!

When you flew the F-4 Phantom did you ever do any bombing runs at the bombing range in Dare County, NC ? I've done a "auto rotation" in a G-4 chopper, at least best i can recall it was a G-4. (like the ones on the tv show M*A*S*H) the ground comes up at you really fast. We started the dive at 5100 ft. I was a passanger.

Lonnie,
T-38 & F-4 at the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base in California. Flew with some of the best test pilots in the world. I have some VHS tapes of some of the most unusual and famous aircraft we have ever built.
Flew the F-16 at Eglin AFB in Florida. You guys who fly helicopters; I don't know how you do it. If I lose my engine I have the option of bailing out (if the airframe is gone), looking and gliding to a landing spot, etc., I have options. You guys--just one, going straight DOWN!
Now adays I sit in front of a computer all day, oh well it pays the bills and helps me afford taking the Mustang to the track every now and then.

Yes sir I sure did. I'm waiting for the owner of the resturant to get back in town so I can drop them off and get some pictures. Sorry it's taking so long but when it gets warm out everybody goes on vacation to take advantage of the summer days.
