Only have .080 P/c clearance and want to go to a cam around 273@.05 730-740 lift from a XR304R with 268-682 lift 110LSA installed at 108 IC. I know there differant ways to gain clearances. Just wondered on a 501 cube motor how the wider lsa would work between 5000 and 7000 rpms. I beleive i might loose some mid range torque but 5000 is barely midrange? Thanks for anyones experiance, When the time comes i will probably order a custom cam from LEM or someone on here.

.080" cl on both valves , I'd run it . not a hyd cam , your lifters won't pump up

Why only .080 clearance ? What is your set up.
Retarding would gain clearance on one valve and lose it on the other.
I would just get an Inski tool and cut the notches deeper with the pistons in the engine. That way your able to run what ever cam you need to with no worries. JMHO

i'd call Lem and see what he thinks.with a wider lsa you may not loose any pvc.i went from 108 to a 112 and had more room even with much more lift and duration.a lot depends on the profile, hell i dont know! call Lem!

Motor would need to come apart??
I would like to hear from someone that has done it with pistons not taken out to clean . I guess a surgeon could do it using tape and alot of it and maybe some wheel greese around edge of pistons to keep any thing out that got pass. I dont mind pulling engine since i got the tranny out anyway. Sounds kinda iffy to me

Isky tool and a drill. I actually have done one on a diesel that had no valve cant. I wouldn't suggest doing that. The cutters are made to only cut across less than half the face. They don't plung cut for crap.

Check out the link below to a thread on Ford Muscle.
As Blake stated above, don't be afraid of tape and a shop vac.
