That's pretty cool, I figured they were all "oh no, save the environment." But that's cool that they have racing engines designed, I would like to see this design go places and not cost way too much. Now Dan wont have to worry about spinning a lifter and wiping out a cam Just kiddin. Its a good idea, he said they could get the one up to 14,800 rpms Gonna need stronger parts!

Neat Stuff, Origional (or at least put into experimental use) looked at by Chrysler in the 1960's they ran into some reliability problems with the materials avaliable at the time. Choats didn't invent the technology but he has gotten it to a reasonable level or reliability. Only issue is cost right now.

Coates LTD
Hey guys......
I was just waiting for someone to mention Coates might be a good investment......
Just my 2 cents....
Go to the website and find your way to "financials". The information on these pages
will tell you the story. In my opinion, the financials are sh*t. They are not getting
any revenue from licensing, and have a lot of debt.
I'm not saying Coates is a bad company or that they don't have a viable product.
All I'm saying is to do your own homework.
It is, once again in my opinion, very speculative. If you don't have the money
to lose, you may want to invest elsewhere. My crystal ball works about like
everyone else's.... the stock is definately going up or it's going down!
However, there is another way to get involved... put together a group of people
to invest in some type of licensing agreement with Coates; whether it's
manufacturing, retro fitting, or just sales and marketing. This way we control
our own destiny.
I think there may be an opportunity to do something like this. Of course, there
will be naysayers who don't like any change or trying something not proven.
That's where we have to do our homework and find out if this really works. All
the information on the website looks good, of course, but only alot of testing
and real world experience will tell.
Let me know what you think.
Robbie

Re: MY NEW HEADS!
Adam this is not a new Idea it has been in the works since the 60's or 70's...
The major issue is that the Ceramic seals get scratched by the carbon build up on the rotors....so unless they find something that will keep the carbon from scratching the ceramic seals, I see no reliable use......and cost effective... but it is a neat Idea....

Re: MY NEW HEADS!
There's also a company here in Michigan, (I read about them in the newspaper this past summer. They are always looking for ways to raise the spirits around here because of the economy), who is developing a small OPOC engine, (opposed piston, opposed cylinder), which has a lot of promise. Sorta like a small version of what the German's used in their tanks, planes and submarines during WWII.

Randy.
Our team is looking into different ideas, different thoughts, just anything about valve train. "Yes", over head cam stuff with the variable timing has really changed things but we still need to think outside the "box" for room of improvement over "Buckets, HLA's, valves, springs, followers, etc...)
The introduction of Direct injection on Spark ignition engines, Two approaches are being pursued:
Early injection, to product a homogeneous fuel-air mixture,
Late injection to create an easily combustible mixture (close to stoichiometric) near the spark plug.
(sorry off topic)
This rotary system was one of the items.
Another, was/is electromagnetic valve drive.
Just keep in mind, many people thought "disk brakes" would never work.

Re: MY NEW HEADS!
I agree with you Adam, they just have to figure out how to keep the pesky carbon from scratching the ceramic....
Fuel injection has came along way, I think there is alot still to be found.
I think you are right about thinking outside the box......
I remember when the 4 bangers were first introduced they didn't have the power to pull the hat of a dead man, now look at them they are building good power and very reliable...

I just took a class, the Professor (Dr. @ MIT) showed us (slide show) what the expected MPG for the future. By 2025-2030 we are looking at 60+ MPG.
It's a ball park figure, don't ask if that means all vehicles, or just one brand among a manufactures line-up of vehicles.?

The big issue BS goverment rules, fuels, emissions and mandates.... The goverment is the biggest thing holding back fuel economy, they are your enemy.
Hell I'd be willing to be if you started with a clean sheet with no goverment rules you could build a 100mpg car with what you know now........ it may not be a race car or be able to haul a 10,000lb trailer but it would be efficient and reasonably comfortable......
