What powerglide is a good start if you must use a stock housing?
I found one but dont know anything about them. This thing looks old LOL. Hear something about a short one, bell shouldnt matter since it will be gone on figure. Any yrs. and descriptions on better ones appeciated..,Ed

That is a False statement.. Ford built the glide many years ago just as 342g said and sold it to them chebby guys. Go back to your Ford history class and learn something. Just because its on the internet don't make it true

Best type will be the V8 type with 1.76 gearset. You can tell them external by the output shaft diameter, even though all are same spline the diameter is slightly different. The V8 glides from behind small 283 + 307's had the weaker 1.82 gearsets.

I dont have to do any research! Only trans that were ever designed besides their own' was the one they designed & sold to chrysler...
