1.7 roller rockers
can 1.7 ratio roller rockers be used on a dove 460 head instead of the 1.73's?

Re: 1.7 roller rockers
Yes they will function, but the geometry will be off. Good Ford specific rockers aren't that expensive and do make quite a difference on how the engine will perform. I had a set on my engine when I first ran it, then put on some Ford specific rockers and there was quite a difference in performance.

Re: 1.7 roller rockers
Keep in mind the ratio changes the valve lift, higher ratio increases valve lift and a lower ratio decreases valve lift. .03 ain't nothing to worry too much about, how much lift is your cam supposed to be anyways?

I spoke to Randy Malik about this exact subject yesterday, because Comp cam sent me 1.70 pro magnum rockers, he showed, and explained to me the difference, the fulcrum is bored different, but you get the same exact geomentry, thanks Randy, I will call you on the other problem I spoke to you about.

I did not think that .03 would be anything to worry about either, I have not got the cam yet but i will prob, be in the .640-.660 range.bb429power wrote:Keep in mind the ratio changes the valve lift, higher ratio increases valve lift and a lower ratio decreases valve lift. .03 ain't nothing to worry too much about, how much lift is your cam supposed to be anyways?

Re: 1.7 roller rockers
Well I came across a "good" deal at the ford swap meet and got so excited I bought a set of 1.7' that were(in the sellers defense)clearly bbf 429-460 1.7. After I walked away happier than hell cause I finally got a good deal it dawned on me, Dumbass, 429-460 rockers are 1.73". Oh well I'm gonna use them anyways!!342g wrote:I spoke to Randy Malik about this exact subject yesterday, because Comp cam sent me 1.70 pro magnum rockers, he showed, and explained to me the difference, the fulcrum is bored different, but you get the same exact geomentry, thanks Randy, I will call you on the other problem I spoke to you about.

Re: 1.7 roller rockers
The major differences to look for between the geometries are:
1. The "distance" between the center of the stud, (some stud holes aren't bored in the middle of the fulcrum), on a Ford is just under 1.600" long from stud centerline to the rocker arm tip. The "measured lever arm length" is different from that dimension IF the stud hole centerline is machined OFFSET to the fulcrum centerline.
2. The angle of the pushrod seat and the height of the pushrod seat.

You too Rick.
We didn't sell much ... I wish but, you have stay visible to the potential customers even when the times get rough. Hopefully, when the times get better, they will remember.
Re: 1.7 roller rockers
Rocker arm ratio in-and-of-itself does not determine good or bad valve train geometry. I have seen rocker arms sold as BBF-specific and advertsied as 1.65, 1.70, 1.73, 1.75, & 1.80 ratios. I have also seen rocker arms advertised as applicable to engines other than the 385 Series but have design geometry that is more suitable to the BBF than some rocker ams sold as BBF-specific.schmitty wrote:Yes they will function, but the geometry will be off. After checking my catologs and what I can find on the net, comp cam pro mags for bbf are 1.7's not 1.73's.

They do offer a 1.73 SS pro Magnum.
