Glidden boss engine
Hi Everyone,
A fellow FORD brother I know has one of the last engines with factory head casings that Glidden ran before he went to the A/R setup.
He bought it from Barry Poole some years ago.He ran it and broke the crank!
And guess what he found?, a Jack Roush brand CAST crank!
Was this common then? Maybe they figured to go cheap since they were freshened after so many runs?
Seems they would have ran a billet one, since Glidden was tight with Ford then??
Supposedly Poole never touched the engine. Glidden wants the the heads back, but they are not for sale
What do you guys think?

Bill who?????
I dont have pics guys,BUT we all know what a cast one looks like when it breaks.
Plus it had Roushs name on it.
Just because my freind aint running them, DOES NOT mean he should sell them back IMO. Its his property.
I ever get over there, Ill take a pic for you cats. Id probably be too busy enjoying myself....

Cast Roush Crank
Apparently from reading some information on the the 351 Cleveland site, Jack Roush preferred cast cranks to forged steel (Not a Cheap or money issue). Maybe this engine was assembled with this in mind ??? Just a thought relating to his name on the crank.

Re: Glidden boss engine
Rick,
Randy ran a 9.11 last I saw. It definately fell off for sure (loose valves). He went out early and was playing with them when we left. Guys that were doing good in the brackets were within 3 hundreths, so if ya could match that, you shouldnt have a problem there next year. Most of the guys running were out for fun, and it didnt seem like a competitive atmosphere.
The weather was very cool yesterday morning and windy. Sun was going in and out. The fuel guys were having fits. Plus after the bleachers,a strong West crosswind was unloading the fuel cars. Nanook almost lost it, bounced around to holy hell in the lights, ran a 8.14 to Pure Hells 7.89? and still won 1st round! Crazy.
Got a few pics, for sure. Will go back next year for sure. My Boy Graham and the his freind Chad got to set in a Comp front-engined digger, plus a 48 Ford Gasser! Some kids have all the luck, In my 46 years of going to the drags I have never been that lucky. Chad was so geeked he never stopped talking the moment we left home and got back!!, KIDS They wore me out.
You remember me telling ya about us trying to drive in and park pit-side on the phone?
Anyway Randy was parked very close to the south pit entrance. And I was damned if I was gonna carry ten pistons/rods and a goddamn seat to the far North and walk to the far West side where we had to park! A official saw us heading toward the gate and gave me a ride to get my truck,Cool. I got to the south gate and ran into that cunt I told you about on the phone. She told me I had to buy a $30. pass to cross and get my shit! WRONG! So I unloaded on her, basiclly telling her the show was over and that was that/etc. Luckily the kids werent with me ! But she gave in. $30 bucks to go 500 ft my ass!
IM DONE!

Its Grahams birthday today. I let the Wife handle that. I wish Bruno would change the photo format here. Dont really care for the Photo-bucket deal. The old site had a good setup to run them off the harddrive.
