Ya'll ain't gonna believe this!
Ya’ll ain’t gonna believe this. I was off most of the week of thanksgiving. I spent a lot of time working on a buddies motor and getting my car ready to be put away for the winter. Early in the week I had pulled the plugs out of my motor and was going to check all the valvesprings just to be sure everything was OK. I got sidetracked and decided to wait till Saturday to finish up my car. So Saturday comes around and I’m out there in the afternoon checking valvesprings, I’m about finished, and as I’m bumping the motor over to get the valves closed on #4 I hear a whistle as the piston is coming up on the compression stroke and felt something hit my hand. I looked on the ground and there is a powder on the ground under the car. I’m like WTH is that! I shine a light into the spark plug hole, and it’s full of something and I can’t figure out what it is. I took an air nozzle, stuck it into the plug hole and blew a bunch of this powder out of the cylinder. I am baffled as to what it is and how it got into my engine! I swept it up and looked really close…………………………………………………. And I figured out it was rat poison that I had set out earlier in the week. The damn rat was planning on using my engine as a winter home! Of all the places in a shop to hide, I never would have thought a rat would have done that. The car was 18” high on jackstands.
Anyway I took pics because I knew nobody would believe this!

Stuff them with rags and wrap the ends with wire mesh, they eat right through the tape.

Jon,
Just don't forget to take the Nerf's out before you try to fire it up.
Later Mark.

Pull all the Rocker Arms for Storage too... Keeps pressure off of everything for extended periods and closes of the cylinders too.

Yep had it happen too
I have had the same thing happen but my headers were full of BIRD seed! Like your car mine was way up off the ground and I was turning the engine over one day had a sound that something was plugged? It did finally blow out and then I took after it with the shop vac, nothing got into the engine which was a good thing !!!! A really good trick to do is use steel wool ! Mice and Rats don't like it so much because it's like if you have cavities and bite into a piece of tin foil ! The use of plastic and tape will only give them nesting materials ! I like the nerf idea just for the fact to see how far they will go when the engine is fired .

Thanks for the heads up, I'm covering my ports right when the heads go on since you said that. I saw a black mouse in the garage not too long ago, so now I have to watch where I stepJACKAZZFLATZ wrote:Around here it's usually acorns. And my engine was on the stand.

No rat yet, I'm going to pull the header off and take a look. I would like to find a boreoscope to look through the plug hole into the cylinder to see if any of that crap is still in there. I've got the plugs back in and the rocker arms backed off so they can only go as far as the header for now. My luck the little dude is mangled up between the valve and the seat.

He'll come out all right... at 90mph with his tail on fire like a bullet through the shop. So does this mean you have a big block rat motor?
