Would it be possable to grind a camshaft for a 8.5-1 460 to work with a 4500 rpm stall torque converter and make power to 6500 rpm? Right now I have a summit 3501, max ported c9ve heads 2.25 int 1.74 exh 83 cc chambers victor jr intake, 2" fms headers and nitrous 125-300 kit. This is an 86 mustang 3850 lbs w/driver 460, c/6, art car 4500 stall, 3.73 8.8. It has run a best of 12.5 @108 mph, 1/4 mile 1.82 60', at 3000' elevation w/o the nitrous. I was going to turbocharge but changed my mind.

If I cant turn 6500 with 8.5-1 and power, how much can I mill the c9ve heads, and how much compression increase can I expect?

Have these heads had the chambers measured? The c9 heads had 75cc +/- chambers. Need more info on the combination.

the heads were ground out to the gasket to lower the compression ratio and cc,d at 83

Well, I guess you better get a good block to get the BORE size out to the gasket also. The head should be ground-out to the bore, NOT the gasket.

To answer your question, yes a custom cam can be made to make power to 6500 RPM but, won't make up for the lack of compression.

When the engine was built it was going to be turbocharged. But since that time I decided that I didnt want that much power in this car. The city tore out the dragstrip and now its 110 miles to las vegas the closest track. This is mostly a street car and I want to have the sound of nasty more than stealth. I bought this car new and its only been licensed 4 times in 24 years (22000 miles).
