I'm curious to know what stroke everyone is running on their rear coil-overs. I have an old set of Koni singles that are getting replaced with a set of doubles. Also, am curious to hear what spring rates you all are running as well. I have a pretty good idea of what I "think" I need, I would just like some input from you guys. Big tire, ladder bar deal....
I'm trying to make a good car better.
Thanks,
JB

I run a 5" stroke double adjustable afco with a 150lb spring. I love the afcos. Depending on how much your car weighs you might get away with say a 130lb spring.

I'm leaning toward the Afcos but, I'm still looking at the the Koni....it will be one or the other.
Are you guys both on ladder bars?

The longer stroke rear coilovers (aprox 19" extended) really help getting bigger/taller slicks (33.5, 34.5, 36) off the car. If your running a shorter slick (33.5 & shorter) the "normal" length coilovers (aprox 16" extended) should usually get the job done.

I use Strange D/A s with the longest stroke they offer with a 14" 110 lb spring. I have used a 95 lb. Car weighs right at 2500 with me in it. Front to rear the car is almost 50/50 in distrubution. You need to know the rear weight more than the overall.

I may be wrong on the stroke length on mine, I do know I can get a 31.5" tall tire out from under it with room to spare without unbolting the shocks lol.

I seen a big difference when I went to the Strange Double adj shock and highly recommend them. The length will be determined by the measurment you get on your shock mounts at ride height. Get under your car and measure eye to eye where the shock mounts and I know strange has a range that you need to be in, One thing to watch no matter what you get dont buy ones too long or they will bottom out or too short the will extend too far and damage the piston. Very Happy

Your shock brackets should have enough adjustment holes to allow you run the shock in its recommended range usually about 1/2 - 2/3 of the total stroke measurement compressed. I personally do not think a shock "knows" where it is at in reference to its stroke measurement and as long as it is not bottomed out or extended fully it will work if the spring weight is correct .

A chassis that is set up right should not use all of the stroke in either direction even with the shorter stroke shocks. It is nice to have the longer stroke shocks for the reason Dave mentioned , but if you can not fit them in your brackets or are not willing to modify yours the shorter stroke shocks will work fine.

I am running the strange da shocks also and like them very well

We scaled the nose-heavy ol' bitch the other night. I'm gonna call Afco and let them help me with the spring rate. I'm leaning toward a 5" stroke deal but, I still need to spend an evening taking some measurements on the existing stuff before I commit to anything. Thanks for your input.
