Replying to a post on another thread got me to thinking about my past and my love a fair for the Foxbody Mustang. Let's read/hear some of your stories...Old pictures would be great also

Every car finds its place in somebody's heart and they think is the best car ever made period. That car for me is the FOXBODY!!!!!!!!!!! You know why that is "BECAUSE I LIVED IT" 1987-1993 I was freaking there, dead smack in the middle of it in my prime Twisted Evil. I started a club called the Motorcity Mustang Association and we had some serious fun. We even donated some money one year to children hospital in Detroit. I can go on and on about my foxbody days but I will pass it on to the next guy...who's next??

Cool stuff there D. Cool I fell in love with the 70's pickups back in the early 80's reading in the 4x4 mags of the day reading about Bigfoot. I wish I had all of the concept drawings I did back then. I wish I had pics of all of the trucks I've owned and built, but I don't think I even have one. I still love the classic lines and brute power of the F series trucks. Cool

Many of my friends had Mustangs and were always trying to talk me into buying one, but I stayed loyal to my Mopars!
Then in 1987 I saw the new Mustang GT and fell in love with it. What really sold me was the sound of it's true dual
exhaust. The sound was a big improvement over the single to dual tips that everyone else had! I've been in love with
87-93 Fox bodies ever since! And the only thing better than a 5.0L Mustang is a 7.5L powered Fox Mustang!

That is some cool history there D!! Great looking GT.

My dad had several Fords while I was growing up. I always dreamed of a 71-73 Mach 1. Then with my dad's help (loan), my first car was a 1972 Mach 1. Red with the black stripes, 351C etc.

Then I saw an article in Car Craft about a guy stuffing a 460 into a Fox Mustang back in the late 80's. I had to do it!! At that time Kaufman was the only swap kit seller that I could find.

I picked up a 1978 Fairmont Futura from a buddy as a roller. Put a 460 from a 1974 T-Bird in it and what a blast that car was!! Then onto a 1985 Mustang w/460, then my latest 1983 T-bird. Love the Fox bodies!!!

Laughing it would'nt even start to hook till the top of 2nd gear, but she was bad assed!ahhhhh, the good old days. Laughing

Way cool Denaro. Well here's I go, once I start typing I'm going to keep rambling on so here's the story....

I was so antsy to get a car, MAN I wanted a car and I couldn't stop bugging my dad. Me and my brother both were trying to get him to buy us a car each, I was 12 or 13 and I wanted a project (you know how kids are). Well we started looking at auto sales magazines and this one I had had a lot of older style cars in it and some newer ones like 90's. The magazine was all black and white too. I came across an add for a 71 maverick and there was a couple by it too. But as soon as I looked at it (I had no clue what a maverick was) I was in love, right then and there I decided the 71 and 72 mavericks were my favorite cars in the world.

A few years later my brother was looking for cars and my dad was ready to get him one since he was 16 (I think), he wasn't having much luck and he wasn't a mav maniac like me. But he did find a maverick on craigslist close by, a 70 maverick with a 302. Man this car seemed cool, but my brother was sort of using my dad just to get a car because my dad used to have a maverick and he knew my dad would want to buy it. I was pissed, oh man I was angry. I did NOT want him to get that car, sort of jealous too because I already had my 67 f100 and I really liked this car and thought my brother didn't deserve it.

We checked out the car, I loved it. We got it, I accepted it more as time went on. We found out it was a little worse than we thought and dad fixed the rust, dad decided he didn't want my brother to drive it because he thought it was unsafe which, it wasn't nearly that bad. Rolling Eyes The 70 is what we have right now and I love the car so much. I learned that the 70 is the same as the 71 and 72 models but I liked the 70 more. My dad was going to sell it but I can't let him, it has too much sentimental value. Not only is it my favorite car ever but it was the first car I race, my brother raced, and my dad raced. I have always wanted to make a maverick drag car and I plan on buying this mav off my dad and turning it in to the drag car I want and we will still be able to keep the car. The 67 f100 I have now, we were going to look at for my brother, he didn't want it, I wanted a project. Got it just before I turned 14 and still is being built, strange how things work out some times. I couldn't be happier though. Very Happy

People tell me today that I'm "embellishing" because they simply won't believe it but, that IS the first place I went 4 wide drag racing in the late 60's with my slant six, stickshift 64 Plymouth Valiant. That car only weighed 2,400 some pounds, production.
Time trials for cars less that 14 flat ran 4 wide.

A couple years later I installed a 4 speed, 512 gear, 318" tunnel ram engine. Broke into the 11's with that car ... Inglewood Pos-i-tractionl tires and full exhaust system. The car actually went slower with the headers open.
Drove it everyday as it was my only transportation with doors, even in the winter time through the snow. Had to install Ford carb plates with water circulation under the carbs to make it run barely decent.

I got into drag racing when I was 11 or 12 years old going with my Dad and brother.Daddy had bought my brother a 69 mach 1 mustang 351w,fmx trans,3.55 limited slip 9'' rear.My Dad drove it at the track most of the time winning every weekend only 2nd place finishes was when my brother drove it I believe they only had 3 2nd place finishes all that year. The next year they raced it about 5 or 6 times before my brother wrecked it.He had been road racing out ran the guy took his money then on the way back to town the guy ran him off the road. Then when I was in my early 20s I bought a 71 mustang coupe 351c 4v raced it it ran in the high 8s with street tires ran mid 8s with slicks. This was my 1st car I raced then I bought a 69 mustang coupe from my brother built a 351w and put in it that I still have part of that engine in my 69 F100 now it ran low 8s with slicks and mid 8s on street tires.Build the 351c out of the 71 drove the 69 down the road a couple times and came home pulled the engine and put it in my 69f100.Got out of racing until I started going to the track with Rick (aka 557 mazda ) and started the build on the Ranger carried it and have made 3 passes with every pass get faster the best of them 7.81 1/8 mile.

What's your story? Empty Mustang

Post  knrclark January 10th 2011, 10:52 pm

My Dad had a 64 1/2 when I was very young. I have that car now. He ordered it from Gogswell Motors in Russellville Arkansas. I had my first Mustang at age 16. I have owned one almost non stop all my life. There was a few years while in the military where I did not have one. I own 2 now, my 68 drag car and my fathers 64. I would love to have one of the new 2011's to daily drive. A GT350 to be more precise. I passed the tradition to my son and he has the bug worse than me including a tattoo. Unfortunately his finances has not allowed him to own but one Foxbody. He will eventually end up with the 64 and that car will have made it 3 generations and 50 years with my family. I guess you might say we are a Mustang family.

Foxbody's???? Who gives a crap about a Foxbody??

I only have about 8 of 'em........ Embarassed

I was the first kid on my block to stuff a 460 into a '79 coupe back around 1990 using a Kauffman Products kit.

2 kids and a few mortgages really slowed down the madness, but I never lost the desire....

I have a '67 fastback too. I just wonder what it would be like if I had a dozen of 'em. I am speculating that the Foxes will be valuable in the future, so if I see one for a couple hundred bucks, I grab it. But mostly, I just like them.

I managed to get a free 89 5.0 LX that a guy was parting out. He had sold the engine and rear, and I bought the trans for 250. I asked him what he was going to do with the body, and he said he was going to haul it to the scap yard. I told him to bring it to my house, and he did. For free. Shocked

Post  83-88T-Bird Guy January 11th 2011, 5:28 pm

I got hooked on Fox Body (T-Birds) in 1992 when I was looking for a nice car to travel back and forth between KY and North Carolina.
It was my brother who suggested a 1983-1988 T-Bird.
I bought an '83 with a running (but ticking) 302.
Since then, I have owned over 17 Fox T-Birds and about 8 Fox Mustangs.

So, I blame my brother for my addiction..... Laughing

My story probably starts like most, with a childhood love for cars, that I shared with my father. I was brought home in a 1966 Galaxie that my father bought as his first car, and installed a 429 in. So that started my love for both all things Ford, and all things Big block Smile

I grew up with Torino wagons, and growing up my mom had a 1975 Maverick Grabber (302).

when I graduated highschool I knew I wanted a Ford muscle car of somesort to put a big block in, but wasnt set on anything specific (my desires ranged from early cougars, to doing a big block fairmount.) I bought a 1983 LTD Wagon with the desire to do a big block sleeper. But things changed and I sold the wagon, and the summer I graduated (1992) I stumbeled upon a 1970 Torino GT. It had a 302 2v, C4. I purchased it, and the following summer (1993) began the transformation. With the help of a friend, built a warmed over 466 (forged pistons, big hydraulic cam, torker II, 850 carb, home ported D3s, assorted goodies from the (then) Ford Motorsports catalog. A C6 Trans w/ TCI torque converter, 9 inch rear with 4.56 gears and a spool.

I never had a desire to go to the track, but had alot of fun beating up mustangs & camaros of the 90s. spent alot of time cruising some summers, other summers the car sat alot. But with the advent of the Woodward dream cruise and the insane popularity its gained as the years have gone by, now I cruise all throughout the summer.
