want to leave illinois. Anybody got any suggestions. I make 27/hr now. So would have to be close. To that. Wife is a special ed teacher with background in emotional and physically disturbed children has degree in speech and audiology. I have worked for a ford and gm. Have most of my background in personal water craft and motorcycles and atvs. I do mig, tig, stick, oxy accet welding. Familiar with tube benders and sheet metal equipment. Lathes and mills. Goal would be at a chassis shop or do some kind of fab with hands. I love building things. Rod and custom shop is what I am working on at home.

oklahoma is one of the cheapest places to live in the usa, homes are cheap, cost of living, and we was on the top 5 list for the least hardest hit by unemployment

You may need to reevaluate what you need to make, if your looking to work for someone else or a company. alot of other areas do not pay those kind of rates, but you will also find things like housing, taxes, Etc are much cheaper than Ill.

if it's a job I like, I am very flexable on pay. Getting more and more work at home so that will make up some difference. Have to build new rep when I move though. Nobody will know me

lot of places here pay welder 20-35 hr i work at a nh3 plant e pay starts at 12.50 hr ..then 16.75 hr for outside guy...up to 32.00 hr for board operator, there is a large cat dealer in Tulsa that pays good, American airlines..here, nor-dam...Boeing...sprint aerospace..centrilift pays good...15.00 here is like 25 in illi

getting hooked up with vintage air, flaming river and a subsidiary of summit for parts resale also

If you and the Wife are still working. Id stay home. Look at what it would cost and take to start over. Plus those are PREMIUM wages you wont find in a cheap-living state. They are that way because they dont make the money we do up north.

Ive been all over the country. And I can tell ya, the more you travel, in the end things are the same whereever you go it seems. Id move myself, but have too much here and too old to start over again. Heck, regarding myself, who wants to hire a 47 year old man?

In the end it all equalls out one way or the other. Things will get better.

Im sure this will probably light another fire somewhere....

LOL! that the first thing i thought of! if your thinken of a southern direction i'd say Huntsville AL. would be a good place for you.always work of some kind.even south AL. would put you in the watercraft area.

I'm looking for a good mechanic but you would have to move to Nebraska. You would have to work on anything from a KIA to a fiat/allis payloader. I can't keep up it seems like when I get 1 job done 3 more show up. Mechanics are finding less stressfull jobs in my area at better pay (don't blame them).
