CHANGING OIL IN MY 6.0??? Empty CHANGING OIL IN MY 6.0???

Post  scottke March 5th 2011, 12:08 pm

Hey guys, I'm fixin to change my oil . It's the first time that I myself have changed it. When I replace the filter on top of the motor, do I need to pour any new oil down in there, or just pour all of it in the valve cover? Thanks in advance.

If it like the 6.4 on top make sure you take the filter out first. When you pull the old oil filter all the old oil drains in the pan and out the drain plug.I learned that the hard way.On the 6.4 I pour oil in and screw the top back on in a hurry so it all don't drain to the pan.Like I said this is on a 6.4 don't know if the 6.0 is the same way or not.

It's best to change the fuel filter on an empty tank with the truck facing uphill. Otherwise it'll just siphon the tank and make a mess. Watch out on what filters you use too. Some oil filters are too short and leave the drain valve open causing the oil to not get filtered.
