CO2 or electric shifters
I have been doing quite a bit of research trying to find a good CO2 or electric shifter. ACD makes a nice one that is CO2 operated, but $ I haven't found any electric ones that do the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Any opinions gratefully accepted.
Here is a link to the ACD unit, but this price does not include the SCS shifter shown. Add about another $300 for a complete unit, plus a mounting bracket.

I like the elec, don't have to worry about the bottle, and turning it on and off, but each to their own.

I like the electric shifters better. To me Dixie Shifter has the best solenoids out there.

Re: CO2 or electric shifters
electric is better, but for a 3 speed deal CO2 may be the only good option.
I have a spare ACD controller box and an extra bottle and reg.........hose etc....if that helps lol.
Or just put a 2 speed in it and go electric..............

Shifty business
If you are wanting an automated 3-speed shifter, the Precision Performance Products shifter is the best..in my opinion. I ran one with my C-6 and it was great. When I installed the 2-speed non-Ford racing trans, Precision sold me the parts to change it to 2-speed for a bout $45. I use CO2, since I need it for the throttle stop in some classes.
The electric conversion for the Quarter stick is OK...but I know 2 guys that run them...and they always complain about the occasional "no shift" event.
Please check out the PPP unit...http://www.precisionperformance.com/home.htm
You will not be dissapointed.

Shifnoid has electric shifters for 3 speeds. Forward or reverse pattern for Qtr stick, Pro stick or Pro Rachet.

Ward (Dr's Wife Racing on here) had one with a Pro Rachet a few years and cars ago.

Re: CO2 or electric shifters
Thanks David. I know a guy that is running the Shifnoid setup and has good success with it. I was going to look into it. Wish I had a compatable shifter rather than the B&M Z gate that I have now, it would be a lot more simple. I just know that I won't be able to grab the gears fast enough with the new combo, so I have to get something figured out.

Re: CO2 or electric shifters
I ran the dedenbear co2 shifter in my truck only problem I ran into (that I didnt cause) was it requires a 400 rpm drop when it shifts before it will shift again. On real slick mud tracks I had to reach over and smack the shifter into third. As for the shifter I used the cheetah scs shifter almost impossible to miss a shift even when your going manual. The 10 oz bottle would last a little over 2 years going to around 30 races a year two passes at every race plus testing across the yard.

Re: CO2 or electric shifters
Rob I know some guys mud racing with Precision Performance Products shifters with the C02 setup. Mines the same without the C02 option. It's a nice setup.
Be careful with the rpm switch you use like lghting94 says. You won't have the rpm drop like the 1/8 or 1/4 mile guys do.
One of my buddies uses all Mallory ignition and had lots of trouble. The rpm wouldn't drop enough to reset the switch and never shifted to 3rd gear. Not sure what he changed to, but the one he has now only needs 100 rpm drop to reset.

Re: CO2 or electric shifters
Thanks Mike, the ACD setup has a controller that you can set whatever you want to for the shifts. First shift and second can be set for different rpm levels or the same. I'm hoping to set it up for only a 1-2 shift, but having the next gear on a real sloppy track might be a good thing to have if I need it.

Re: CO2 or electric shifters
The Rpm drop required should not be a problem if you are getting your truck to truely hook up in the mud and once I got mine to work correctly most of the time i never used third gear on the 100-125 ft tracks we run around here but on some of the really slick tracks that have no bite you may hafta smack the shifter that is why iI still had the shift light in the truck.

Re: CO2 or electric shifters
I was such a "non-Powerglide in a Ford" guy for so many years, I caught a lot of crap from my Chevy pals when I put the aftermarket 2-speed in the car.
I would have NEVER made the move without the aftermarket cases, bells and especially the straight-cut gear sets.
I still do not call it 'Glide....
That is where the "non-Ford 2 speed racing trans" came from!
