BBF engine build in April's MM&FF....557 stroker vs 427 blown Windsor. Interesting read
I saw this in the latest issue of MM&FF. That 557 BBF has TFS A460 CNC heads. 895 hp on the engine. 1070 hp on the juice

I couldn't see the bottom end in the pictures very clear, and they didn't mention anything about it, but were they running the stock 2 bolt caps? Fairly brave if they were...

It said in the article that they were running a 2 bolt production block when they were talking about the ATI race dampener
thats alot of power to be asking a stock block to hold in with 2 caps....

Yep, page 3, 3rd column, 3rd paragraph down.
Quote:
" The stock 460ci two-bolt block was retained, but filled with a forged reciprocating assembly consisting of a Pro Comp 4.50-inch (4340) forged steel crank, 6.70-inch (BBC) forged H-beam connecting rods, and forged flat-top pistons from Ross Racing pistons."
Until now, I wasn't aware Pro Comp sold 4340 cranks for a 4.5 stroke BBF.

I thought they were going to actually pit the two together in a drag car or something at the same weight and see which one would actually win. Build combos that made the same horsepower and set the car up differently for each combo and run it in the same conditions. heck or build the same weight of car with the same type of suspension, trans, and any other varible. lets see if the torque of the big motor would actually beat the rpm of the small motor.
I expect we know that answer but anyone can build dyno motors. I have seen an 850hp 400M Ford engine on the dyno but never in a car.

They had the designation of Pro Comp as a HP part before the slaughter of the name the Chinese branded Pro Comp. Two totally different things.
The Chinese pro comp is a marketing company that takes products that were made in reputable places and copies them with an 8 yr old machinist , then sells them to people looking for the lowest price only.

It is a shame, that they couldn't do a better job of, both writing the article and building an A-460 headed engine. The CNC ported heads come with a 2.400" intake valve, not a 2.300" intake valve like what the article said. Secondly, a 895 Hp engine is pretty weak for 557 CID and TFS A-460 cylinder heads.

I agree, Charlie. We made 950 hp out of our 514" engine back in 1997. We didn't have anywhere near the technology we have today. I'd hate to admit to 895 hp out of a 557". JMHO

Yes they did. IMO that's wasted money on their part. We used rebuilt stock Ford Motorcraft Duraspark distributors in 1200 Hp engines. On the other hand, we've also used MSD crank trigger ignitions in other 1200 Hp engines. Point being that if you are going to spend your money on race parts, then spend it on something worthwhile.

I didn't see a price list, but I would be interested to see the cost difference, considering an aluminum block and Novi 2000 vs a stock block and nitrous.

I've been getting close to 800hp with my small block junk at less than 420ci spinning it less than 8500. I have thrown away the renewal for MM&FF every year but my wife keeps getting it for me.....and I keep reading it.
These magazine guys just build stuff with advertisers parts. I guess we shouldn't give them that hard of time. I do like to read their junk yard builds that cost as much as my race engines sometimes.

I didn't read the artical but from what I was told they didn't know how to build a BBF with the oiling problems and rocker arm troubles.
