Re: GT 598 1968 mustang
8.49 last year was the best but only took it to the track twice. I stepped the gear up from a 4.10 to 4.30 ..got my timing issue worked out (pays to buy a good light) advanced cam two degrees...and im gonna lean on the convertor more atleast 5500 on the launch 7400 rpm shift. The car weighs just over 2700 with me so I would like to see a high 8.20 low 8.30 without beatin her...its just a bracket car

Re: GT 598 1968 mustang
Wow, awesome car. I have no doubt you will hit 8.20s with more passes with the car. What was your mph on the 8.49 pass?
Makin progress :)
Well got the car out for some license runs...track conditions weren't the greatest but. First pass left at 5000 off the break car went1.25 60ft and 5.43 eighth mile at 130.01 mph. Second pass stepped it up to 5400 launch car went 5.37 eighth mile 1.22 60ft 130.51mph. Third and final and only full pass left at 5400 again shifted at 7200 instead of 7000....1.201 60ft 5.34 eighth and went 8.33 at 165.10 mph. I know the car has alot left. I believe it could use more carb and the as cast intake does not help. I think next time i will try to add two more degrees timing and see what that does. i still think the convertor is holding the car back. When it leaves the car lauches soft and the rpm steadily climbs from 5400...no jerk...no pulling the front wheels...just pulls steadlily then real hard after the 60ft. Makes one hell of a top end ride 165 is flyin

I was wondering how it all came together. I can see that it is a flying success!
Looks like a rolling art display to me.
Very nice!

Re: GT 598 1968 mustang
What size is the carb? The picture shows no carb. spacer.....is that still the case? How much timing does the engine have now?
Re: GT 598 1968 mustang
The carb is a prosystems 1200 unit based off a 1150 it looks from the paperwork but i was told would flow more like 1250.....last year i ran a two inch open spacer but i changed to a 1" supersucker and a 1/2 inch open spacer under it hoping for more low end. I advanced the danny bee two degrees and set the timing at 32 degrees. Last year with my old timing light i thought the timing was at 34 degrees....I put my brand new light on it and it was actually about 29 degrees So i feel im headed in the right direction finally atleast.

Re: GT 598 1968 mustang
Yes, the engine will like a true 1250 but that's not your biggest opportunity....keep working with the stall speed [higher] and the timing. Good jobinbred-jed wrote:The carb is a prosystems 1200 unit based off a 1150 it looks from the paperwork but i was told would flow more like 1250.....last year i ran a two inch open spacer but i changed to a 1" supersucker and a 1/2 inch open spacer under it hoping for more low end.
