Re: safety first
what's the weight of your car is a big question?
You need at least:
fire suit -5 rated
gloves -5 rated
shoes -5 rated
either a neck roll or hans type device (we are getting a safety solutions)
5 or 6 point harness
funny car cage
fire system
window net
may be over kill but bad things can happen in a hurry and most smaller events do not have the personnel to handle bad crashes
another words a couple grand plus whatever it cost to get your cage up to spec

Better to buy a new car than a shiny new casket.

Re: safety first
Lee, I run at a track here with no rules either. They run 4 second doorcars there alot. No ambulance..no EMT's ..no safety requirements at all. Not even a helmet is needed to run. I'm not sure how they get insurance?? I'm bad about not wearing my full firesuit. Usually just the top half and gloves..Them being lax on everything makes us ease up too. It's a recipe for a big disaster, and I hope I'm in the pits if and when it happens again. I've seen some crazy crashes there, and more times than not, the one who causes it runs over the other car.The lifeflight helicopter has made a couple of trips there in the last few years. But ,that can happen anywhere . Believe it or not ,a mid 5 car is really dangerous !!! It doesn't seem that fast once you've made a few passes in it, but let it get turned sideways. Just be safe and careful and respect what can happen, and watch the other lane.Good luck my BBF brother!!

Re: safety first
car weighs about 2600 w/d now.
either 25.4 or 25.5 specs depending on construction
get a hold of me. We can do the chassis upgrades if you want to bring it to me. Our prices are pretty reasonable compared to a lot of guys. I know we will be doing a 25.5 cage in the next few weeks for a Houston guy that runs in the 4.90’s and then of course we will start construction on our new car sometime in the near future and it will be 25.3

Re: safety first
Please correct me if I am wrong, but if the window net says sfi 27.1 and is NOT the mesh type it doesn't have an expiration. Only the mesh type window nets have to be replaced every 2 years.

you could be correct...what about 37.1...this info is off the SFI website....SFI specification list on the left columnjcoxracing wrote:Please correct me if I am wrong, but if the window net says sfi 27.1 and is NOT the mesh type it doesn't have an expiration. Re: safety first
I have yet to see a properly installed/used ribbon window net that was really actually "worn out" after only a few years use. And replacing the belts every 2 years on most race cars that most likely spend most of their time stored in a garage/shop (& out of the sun's ultraviolet rays) is major overkill in my opinion. Some of the SFI specs are good, but some are just a money grab.
At this rate it won't be long before they run out of the "major" car/racer related components/parts/apparel to require an SFI spec for. At which point they will have to look at requiring SFI spcs for ridiculous stuff like the screws for Lexan windows, pop-rivets, the bag ice in your drink cooler, & the toilet paper you bring to the track in case the track porta-poty is out of paper.
