More Safety Tips?
Hey guys, I've asked before safety items like the cages and belts. I've been making a fuel cell mount and doing some wiring. It got me thinking about a kill switch and fuel cell vent tip over valve. I've never been fortunate enough to be upside down, does the tip over check ball in the fuel cell vent really work or does it just slow the fuel down? Does anyone do anything extra to keep fuel from spilling out?
Does anyone have one emergency kill switch that cuts everything off or do you just use the already mounted on/off switches when stuff doesn't go right? What do you guys use for a battery kill switch?
If anyone is willing to share what you use i'd be happy to hear it.
Thanks,
Dave S.

I am not a mud racer but this is what I have on my drag truck http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Battery-Master-Disconnect-Kill-Switch-Cut-off-shut-down-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem56432fb38aQQitemZ370494387082QQptZRaceQ5fCarQ5fParts I have it located at the back of the truck in plain site.I have it hooked to the main ground cable from the battery so when in the off postion the truck has no ground.

Jeez Jim, I feel like an idiot, I never thought about a kill switch on the main ground! That certainly would take care of all the hot wires with one switch. I am using both top and side terminal on the hot side, one into the cab for ignition and accessories and the other going under the hood for the starter. My battery is going in the bed along with the radiator and fuel cell.
Thanks Jim,

A lot of organizations require that switch in their safety protocol.

I have always been told to put the main switch on the positive wire.

I realize you all are talking about mud trucks but, the NHRA requires it to disconnect the positive side....fwiw.FORDMUD wrote:I have always been told to put the main switch on the positive wire.
