Hey fellas. I've been searching for a couple days now and everything i find has BBC ends. Do any of you guys know where i can find some 6.700" rods with standard BBF ends?

Here's what i'm up against. I have this 429, and i really prefer to leave it as a 429. I would like to use a 460 piston, but obviously the compression heights are different. I'm considering a "long rod" 429 by using a 6.7" rod with a 460 piston. That would open alot of doors for piston availability. If i added this up right, the piston will be .023" in the bore so we would deck it .010 or whatever is needed to get the desired compression.

If anyone has suggestions to whether this will work or not, please let me know.

I don't know of any 6.700" rods with BBF pin and big end, but you can use a Mopar 6.76" rod with a 10.32" block. This is the common Chrysler 440 "LY" connecting rod (6.76").

In order to do this setup:

•The 440 LY rod will need to have the pin end bushed down from the Mopar 1.094" pin diameter to the BBF 1.040" pin diameter; bushings are readily available, and,

•The 429 crankshaft's 2.500" Ford rod journal diameter will need to be reduced to the Mopar 2.375" rod journal diameter, at which point a standard Mopar bearing can be used.
Mopar rods on 429's and 460's used to be pretty commmon before all the offshore cheapo cookie cutter stroker kits came out.

3.59 stroke + 6.76 rod + 1.77 compression height = 10.325" You can work around that with rod re-sizing, or head gasket, or (mosteasily) by pin height (1.77" is on the upper end and there are 1.765", 1.760", 1.752", etc).

I was reading a post in my search where you mentioned the chrysler rod to another guy looking to do a long rod 429. This doesn't HAVE to be a long rod motor. A buddy of mine runs a long rod 306 and to be honest, i just really like the idea. I'm also looking at the future and the easiest solution for problems if/when things break (melted piston or bent rod).

In your opinion, this would be "easier" than doing a 6.700" rod with BBC ends since the ford ends aren't available? I believe BBC has a 2.220" big and .990 little, and rods are more than readily available.

The other option would be finding dished 429 pistons, or custom pistons. I have a set of DOVE-C heads i would like to run and need to get the compression down due to the turbos it will get. I also hate to call it a budget build, but i definitely need to keep that in mind.

if your gona boost it hard and be a race only deal then aluminum rods would be a good way to go.you can get them in almost any shape or size,even without a pin hole.just depends on how your gona use it.it's only money! Laughing
