I've seen a couple of guy try and it didn't work too well for a first timer. If I were going convert a carb I would send it to one of the big names and pay them to do it. Send it to George Rupert, APD or Bo Laws. All three make great alky carbs and can convert yours.

Yep.... That's what they cost.... Doing something Right and not destroying the carb in the process so it can be converted back of you wish isn't free.johndickjr wrote:about 300-400$$dfree383 wrote:Quick Fuel offers kits to convert to Alky and Ethanol.
Maybe you'd be better served buying a used Alky carb and trying it, if you like it sell you Gas one, if not sell the alky one???? Nothing Lost in the process.

Re: convert gas carb to alcohol
I used that quick fuel kit last year. It is a good kit with good instructions. The bosters supplied in the kit have kinda large skirts that probably hinder flow a bit, but carb worked pretty well. Carb can be converted back to gas as well with a few small parts.

I have seen dyno results with some Quick Fuel kits installed and they seem to go over-rich in the mid-range. Almost like they are set up for Methanol instead of Ethanol.

Most things require some tuning, reguardless of who they are from.
The Kits are built for general application, not your specific motor.

Re: convert gas carb to alcohol
Some time ago I did a nice Chrysler engine for a "Pro Street" car of sorts. A lot of time went into building that engine with attention to many details. In the end I delivered a nice "low compression" drag race style engine that would perform on the street with street tires. I was proud of the finished product and so the customer. The one mistake I made, was not "running in" the engine before it left my shop. I simply ask the customer when you are ready to fire it call me and I would like to assist in the initial starting of the engine. NO CALLS! Until a few weeks when a complaint of spark plug fouling was discussed. I asked all the questions while not trying to insult my customer! Finally after a week of phone calls I visited the customer and we went about looking for problems with the ignition parts. I found no issues with the ignition system, yes the plugs were fouled for the most part. I removed the valve covers. A few seconds later the butterfly's took over my stomach! I began to smell gas fumes within the oil base. Then I spotted a "large gap" between a rocker arm and the valve tip! Well most of you know the "Rest of the Story"!
My point being, if you have a nice engine, new or old, don't fuck it up with an un-certain fuel system!
Dave.
