5.0l help needed
My daughters 93 5.0l auto is giving me issues. The other day it wouldn't start unless you held the throttle to the floor. I had it towed home but the tow truck guy left the key on and I never checked it so the battery was dead in the morning and all the codes were gone. I swapped batteries and the car started but it is real intermittent for how long it will run or if it will even start. We replaced the TFI module a couple months ago as well as the usual tune up parts like plugs, wires, cap and rotor (which it needed).
So I busted out the test equipment and this is what I come up with.
Using an INNOVA code scanner I get:
KOEO test: code 11, followed by a 10 (separator code) then an 18 (CM code).
Base timing is set to 11* with the PIP out.
Other things I checked: Fuel Pressure is 36# running and 38# KOEO.
I also pulled the TFI and checked the ohms on all the pins using this site as a reference. It tested ok.
As of last night I can not get the car to start with the Spout in. ??? It fires and tries to start but will not.
code 11: System OK.
code 18 C: Loss of tachometer input/IDM circuit failure/SPOUT circuit grounded.
Before I had the code scanner I was using a test light and I was getting a code 11,18 and 96 but I do not get the 96 with code reader.

hahahahaha, this is Louisiana, the 'bus' system around here is pretty lame.56Tbird wrote:Let her ride the bus.................................
On another note I popped in a different distributor this afternoon to eliminate the PIP and TFI module and it still does the same thing. It is looking more and more like the ECM unless I get lucky and find a problem in the wiring harness.

Did you replace the pick up in the dist. ? The it is best to replace both parts in and on the dist. then clean and check all grounds and mass air flow sensor. check all fuses I hope this helps

Well I tried a different dizzy with TFI to eliminate that question. I am going to pull the ECM tomorrow and check the pin for the spout. Everything I could find about code 18 is that the ECM needs to be replaced.

Re: 5.0l help needed
Well I checked out all the wiring and can't find any other shorts or problems so it has to be the ECM. The one I have is a n F3ZF-12A650-FA. They show this as a 93 only and the standard A9L/A9P 89-92. I guess I will try and find one locally so I can get this thing back together again ASAP.
Getting the right computer ECM what ever you call it is key. A9L is the most common 89-93 MAF 5-speed computer catch code.

2) E9ZF-12A650-BA (sometimes ), Manual transmission convertible

6) F3ZF-12A650-DA (later replaced by DB), A3M1, 1993 Manual trans Mustang. Universal?

Ok well I need a processor. The one I have is F3ZF-12A650-FA (later replaced by FB), C3W1, 1993 Auto trans Mustang. I don't know what the difference was between the 89-92 A9P and this model but non the less I need for an auto. Anybody have one??

Re: 5.0l help needed
So does anyone see a problem with running the car without the spout till I get an ECM? It runs on base timing only with no advance. I was wondering if it would run too hot or something because the timing would be so retarded.

Re: 5.0l help needed
Snt you a PM. I would lock the timing at 25-26 degrees with the spout out. You shouldnt have any starting issues.
