Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed and National Muscle Car Association Join Forces for 2011
I have no idea how this will work out, and what classes they will run, but here is the link to a press release regarding NHRA Unleashed races being rolled in to some NMRA events.
NMRA currently has no index classes listed, unless you have an "LSX" ...whatever that is. Must be a Chevy deal.
Their Open Comp class does not look to pleasing to me.
This should be a good deal for all of the 10.5 type classes though. It will give the NMRA guys a chance to race for a Wally.
Looks like a change to plan "C" or plan" D" for the rest of the summer and fall for the '58.

"GLENDORA, Calif. (June 28, 2011) —It was announced today that the Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed program will combine forces with the National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) to deliver an unparalleled offering of fun and close side-by-side racing for fans and competitors alike. The popular Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed program, which was formed in 2010, will be featured at five NMCA events for the remainder of the 2011 season.
NHRA has revised the 2011 Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed class rules and official schedule. Moving forward, the Unleashed classes will be featured at the following NMCA events: Auto Club Dragway at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana (July 8-10); Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky. (Aug. 5-7); Milan Dragway, Milan, Mich. (Aug. 26-28); Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, (Oct. 6-9); and Royal Purple Raceway, Houston (Nov. 11-13).
“The current Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed classes are very similar to some of the heads-up and index classes currently available in NMCA,” said Ray Wilkings, director of operations for NHRA Unleashed. “As a result, the eleven official NMCA class winners will be eligible to receive the coveted Wally at each of the five remaining events, courtesy of the Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed program.”
NMCA will waive NMCA membership fees for NHRA Unleashed racers, unless they want to compete for NMCA Series points.
Aerospace Components and Trick Flow Specialties will continue to sponsor NHRA Unleashed, providing added benefits including more than $3.1 million purse and cash contingencies for all five events, given the new association with NMCA.
“I am very excited about the NHRA’s interest in reaching out to the growing heads-up and index drag racing market. The NMCA welcomes the opportunity to work directly with NHRA to carry on their support for heads-up and index drag racing,” said Charlie Harmon, president of ProMedia Events. “Over the years, NHRA has developed some amazing resources and all of us here at the NMCA are thrilled to have the support of the NHRA.”
By combining resources, NHRA and NMCA will provide an opportunity for racers to take advantage of both organizations’ many benefits and services. The same opportunities can be extended to sponsors providing the opportunity to reach out to a larger group of participants and fans alike.
Headquartered in Glendora, Calif., NHRA is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2011. NHRA also offers the Jr. Drag Racing League for youth ages 8 to 17. In addition, NHRA owns and operates five racing facilities: Gainesville Raceway in Florida; Atlanta Dragway in Georgia; National Trail Raceway in Ohio; Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis; and Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Southern California. ProMedia has been the leader in street-legal events and publishing since 1999, the first year of the NMRA Ford Nationals and Race Pages magazine. Re: Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed and National Muscle Car Association Join Forces for 2011
Everything I have read about this disaster points to NHRA not making the "dream profits" that the "non-profit" sanctioning body had wanted.
Giving away box loads of "Wallys" is a cheap way for the Glendora boys to bail and run for cover.....LOL
From what I have read on another site, the only people than can win a "Wally" are NHRA members.
Sounds like a great way to increase membership numbers while covering their *ss.... IMO.

I just spoke with an official at NMCA. The standard index classes that were established at Unleashed and contested at many local tracks will not be part of their program. Cars like mine will only fit their Open Comp class.
The payouts are less than half of Unleashed, but they have a contingency program that could more than make up the difference.
The NMCAdigital web site has all of their class details.

Be carefull ... the NMCA and NMRA are two different bodies; though they have worked together in the past.
