New CSR Flexplate
After my recent post regarding flexplate failures, I had lots of good recommendations for replacements. The Mezeire and Reactor units looked good, but I did a little more checking. I called my old racing buddy Rowland Wood at CSR Performance and discovered that they have a new 429-460 flexplate that was not in their catalog. The one in the picture below is a part number CSR 220 AL, selling for approximately $290.
I like this one due to many factors, including the method of ring gear attachment. No welding.
If I screw up and damage a tooth, I don't have to scrap the wheel, and can just bolt on a new gear.
The price was reasonable when looking at the other opotions in that quality range.
It has an aluminum center that is just under 3/8" thick and is 1/4" thick at the crank flange.
This just gives the BBF racer another choice whan shopping for a flexplate.
I will wait until after the Bash to install it so you all can check it out while I am there.

Re: New CSR Flexplate
First I'd heard of it Keith. I also like the replaceable ring gear. Good idea.

Re: New CSR Flexplate
Nevs,
The replaceable gear was a big plus to me. The Reactor also features a replaceable gear, but uses welded tabs, instead of a direct flange bolting design. I am sure the old '58 will give this one a workout and test the design.
Thanks,
Keith

Re: New CSR Flexplate
Got my CSR aluminum plate in. Nice piece.
For the guys that use one:
Do you use washers under the flexplate to crank bolt heads? Never used them with a steel plate, this alumnium seems to be very hard, but I don't want to gall it up when I tighten the bolts. Without washers my ARP flexplate bolts go through the plate about 7/16".
Same question for the converter nuts/bolts. On the engine side where the nuts for the converter sit, the flexplate is milled out to about 1/2 thickness so the nut sits down in a recess. Washer or no?

Re: New CSR Flexplate
Ive never used a washer on the bolts , had it on and off atleast 4 times and no signs of damage, they send washers for converter bolts

Re: New CSR Flexplate
If i remember correctly when i purchased mine, he stated it required arp flexplate bolts (which i already had) and the arp hardened washers under the convertor bolts.
Not sure they have it on their website but a quick call to them could confirm the hardware they recommend.
Side note....the biggest reason i switched from the chromo CSR to the 2 piece alum unit was cause they wont recert the Steel plate...yet will recert the alum one time if its in acceptable condition. Nobrainer for the money if you need a plate w a current cert.

You always use Washers under nuts and bolts, they are there for a reason they cushion the bolts and keep them from breakage
