Who are the leading head porters?
Starting to look into having my TFS Streets ported this winter and wondering who is who and locations and feedback on each, Thank you ahead of time.
I do know of a few guys but haven't made any decisions yet.

Re: Who are the leading head porters?
There are MANY ... every head; brand and type are different so, "LEADING" is almost impossible to answer.
Assembling a list of who NOT to do the job is more realistic.

Re: Who are the leading head porters?
Randy Malik, Charle Evans, Laws Mayfield, Bret Powell, Blake Cartwright, Dave Mclain are a few that do Ford heads.

Rich Wilhelm, AKA Boss429 has never done me wrong considering your local for him I would hit him up. Had my 460 inch w/ D0VES going 8's at 3060#s.
Re: Who are the leading head porters?

Re: Who are the leading head porters?
Charlie Evans has ported several sets of cylinder heads for me, a very wide assortment of Ford cylinder heads! All his work performed for me has brought excellent results with each given design. Blake too can offer excellent results with the cylinder head selection you mention. Unless I'm mistaken, Charlie and Blake have been very instrumental in cylinder head design for the manufacture you mention. Yes there are numerous people who may excel in a given design, although the two I mentioned would be good choices for the cylinder head you mention.

Re: Who are the leading head porters?
Hands down the best LOCAL guy for you would be Rich Wilhelm. Im sure Charlie and Blake are great, they are however 10 hrs away. For me I like to be involved every step of the way so its a no brainer. Rich has been building Big Block Fords for over 30 years, and in a number of types of motorsports from max effort drag cars to truck pullers, and done cylinder heads from stock to race Hemis so he more than knows how to use a grinder. If being involved isnt as important to you then by all means the aforementioned are perfectly qualified.

So then ... if you were in Beloit, WI where would you go for porting work...? Would there then be another CLOSER head porter who would get your work or would distance then not be an issue...?
WoW ... you must have some incriminating pictures hidden, LOL.
Re: Who are the leading head porters?
I live 20 mins from Beloit, WI. so my choice would stay the same. I know of no "closer" comparable guy. Perhaps Im not getting your point.rmcomprandy wrote:Barney wrote:Hands down the best LOCAL guy for you would be Rich Wilhelm. Im sure Charlie and Blake are great, they are however 10 hrs away. Re: Who are the leading head porters?
To me it wound not matter how far away someone was , but how there involvment with your engine program is , i dont want a "cookie cutter" head porter to do my heads , period. Look at a person/business track record , look at there clients, and look at the service after the sale. Ive been envolved with the KY Crew for over 5 years and hands down i would send my cylinder heads to Charlie Evans. I want to feel like someone has gone way beyond the call of duty for my business and Charlie has done that on many occasions.
oh and when was the last time you saw a set of edelbrock Rpm heads run almost 170 mph @ 3200lb
tfs , p-51 , frpp whatever you got just give Charlie a call and listen

Re: Who are the leading head porters?
I think all mentioned do a fine job. I like keeping my money local. Whens the last time you saw a set of D0VES go 157 MPH with only 1 kit and 102 CI less than you. The reality is its the sum of your combo not the individual parts.bruno wrote: To me it wound not matter how far away someone was , but how there involvment with your engine program is , i dont want a "cookie cutter" head porter to do my heads , period. Re: Who are the leading head porters?
I like to go into my guys shop and sit down face to face and be very clear as to what I WANT and MY GOALS. thats very difficult to do if your a ship em and write a check kinda guy. Like I said I think all mentioned are good at what they do, but I like there to be no confision as to what I am trying to accomplish, and I like to have a working relationship with my engine builder, head porter, converter guy, etc, etc. For me I would find that difficult to do through phone conversations and written correspondance. I mentioned Rich because I have a long relationship with him and know he will be there through the whole process. Hell hes come to my shop at 11:30 at night the night before a race because I had concerns so he came over and we figured it out. Thats rare in this day and age and because of that he will always get my business. Not to mention he keeps his mouth shut about what Im doing. Know I dont want to know, will know anything about my combo, or what has been done. No flow sheets will be posted, no dyno sheets will be posted, no specs will be posted unless I post them period. Thats also very important to me.
