For sure......a guy would not want to be running "defeat" locks.

Exactly ... what valves do you have, (or are going to use), and what application...?
Re: valve keepers and lock, what are you guys useing???
He didn't ask what he should use, he asked what others were using.

Some people USE different valves and locks for different applications ... especially when they do 50 or more sets of heads a year.
Re: valve keepers and lock, what are you guys useing???
I am well aware of that. Thanks

Getting back to the 1st question.......
There is not enough context for anyone to give 'the' correct answer.
If one has Ti. valves with the radius groove the 'bead lock' is what one has to use. A bead lock keeper with the std. style valve groove is gonna fail.
What most people use is the 10* stuff be it from victory, comp or manley.

When you throw old ones in the trash, are they still considered "keepers"??

SLOW DOWN... I GOT SOME SPECS.
VALVES INTAKE M-6507-A429 MADE IN ARGENTINA
EXHAUST M-6505-A429 ALSO MADE IN ARGENTINA
SOLID ROLLER CAM
AROUND .650 LIFT , ABOUT 240 DURATION AND ABOUT 112
DONT HAVE THE FULL SPECS FOR SURE
I'M USEING IT FOR MUD DRAGS
I HAD CROWER 87056 RET. AND 10 DEGREE KEEPERS AND THE RETAINERS ARE +.100 BUT THEY FAILED.
MOTOR WILLTURN ABOUT 6500 MAX RPM.

I have the same valves in my d0ve heads and I have the manley ti retainers and 10* locks. Can't remember the part number, but Lem got them quick and I've had no issues with a much more aggressive cam and the NexTec blue stripe springs.

Re: valve keepers and lock, what are you guys useing???
for a milder cam like that something on the lines of a comp 954-16 and the matching TI retainers and 10 degree locks should work fine. I'm running that set-up on Cheap Skate with a XR292.
In a 545-557" motor with that small of cam and small port heads you may not make much steam at 6500 rpm.

So far, what you have said here shouldn't of had a problem unless something else was also wrong to cause a problem.
Mismatched valve springs or the rocker arm having contact with the retainer or the pushrod contacting the head somewhere within it's travel or something like that.

1.900 install hight with a over .700 lift cam work?

Maybe not, you need to find out what the coil bind is on your valve springs. How much over .700" lift? IF your coil bind is 1.200" and you have a 1.900" installed height. Then you've only got room for about a net of .650" valve lift, because we would like to stay about .050" to .060" away from coil bind. The bottom line is that you need to find out "why" your Crower retainers failed, because they normally won't fail, unless you have created some kind of problem.

SLOW DOWN ...?
You haven't even said what heads you have so, you better get your ducks in a row BEFORE asking a question which can't possibly be answered with any accuracy.
I think you should SLOW DOWN...!
