My D0VE headed 514 has started laying down on me. Eight (Cool, yes eight years of many passes shifting anywhere from 6100-5800 running around 5.80-90s. I'm bummed cause this has been a hell of a motor.

Gotta decided where to go from here. The D0VE heads just hold too much heat on gas and i'm not sure about an alky carb setup.

I can go with alky and refresh ol Moody or I can go with some aluminum heads and hope to run some 5.50s and not turn it over 7000.

Car ran best of 5.79 with this motor on gas. 2350 tube chassis 77 Mustang II, 1.76 glide, 4.88 gear.

Any thoughts on running alky with current combo in regards to et?

Will aluminum heads cool it down? Griffin radiator and meziere pump.

alky will sure cool it down but i'd inject it,the rons stuff works good.some pick up a little with alky and some dont.your tune up sounds very good on gas so you may not see much with alky.i've ran it for a while now and i like the cooling part about it.get it tuned in and warm it up good so the oil dont turn white! Smile

Do you need a set aluminum heads...yes. You do not need to get them for cooling [they will run cooler] . You need to get them because they will give more performance.
I've seen the story before........get a guy to spend same money changing to methanol that it would cost to get rockin' aluminum heads.
After one gets the aluminum heads he could use any fuel he/she wishes.

Lem say I get a good set of ported heads from you. Will the D1VE 2 bolt block be ok shifting 6500-6800for a 5.50 et?

Damed if I know.....I do not port heads but I know ones that do.
It'd sure speed up........cam, carb, etc would matter.

Or,a guy could buy a set of cyl heads AND put alky on and go realy fast AND be cool doen it! Wink studs and girdles for sure............

Moody just buy you a set of aluminum heads and get them ported later if you need.... the plus is you also loose 80 lbs off your combo.....

why do you worry about keeping it under 7000 rpm?????????????????????????????????







old wifes tale, shifting it over 6800 wont hurt it, as long as the tune is right

Rich that like a bunch of these guys will not bore one of these engines over .030 .060 at most.....

alky helped my old Dove headed deal run 2-3 tenths quicker.....both of um lol.

a guy can do what he wants...............I sure do lol.

Jon I personally think the alky would help on a iron headed engine for it would hold he heat better and burn cleaner. but thats JMO

I may need to put mine on gas this winter to kill some of the ass it has...........naw phuck that, I'll just change my ignition program this winter....................maybe an intake manifold............ Wink
