Trans brake question Empty Trans brake question

Post  NO FAIR September 13th 2009, 11:27 pm

Ok I have a dumb because I am a nubie. On a C6 trans with a trans brake, is it necessary to hold the button in when you want to engage reverse gear? Or is that all dependent on the type of the trans brake ( pro tree??)
Thanks
Dave

Depends on the transbrake from what I gather. I had a C6 with transbrake and you didn't have to hold in the button. My glide is a Pro Tree brake and I have to hold in the button for reverse.

I have one of Frank Merkls transbrakes. It doesn't use the button for reverse.

Yeah, just depends on how the 'brake was designed.
Trans King Tranz-Brake (Pro Tree) - Had to hold the button
JPT Trans Brake (Pro Tree) - Didn't have to hold the button
Broader Perf Trans Brake (Pro Tree) - Didn't have to hold the button
Early Art Carr (Internal) - Didn't have to hold the button
TCI (Internal) - Didn't have to hold the button
Frank Merkl (Inernal) - Didn't have to hold the button

There, thats what I've used in the past and what each one requires.

Does that count as a IHRA/NHRA approved reverse lock out when you have to hold the button down? Or do you still need the lock out in the shifter?
