NEW MEMBER FROM VIRGINIA

Hello to all. My name is Robert ( I answer to a lot of other ones too) and I am from Virginia. I have been turning wrenches and building hot rods for 35+ years. It is great to see there are so many nut cases out there that share the same love for Fords and 460's. My longtime race car is a '71 Mercury Comet that has been around the world an 1/8 and 1/4 mile at a time. The Merc (GOLDRUSH), has raced in many classes with many engines and chassis combos. I guess the only constants were that it was always ALL FORD and it ALWAYS had a TOPLOADER in it. GOLDRUSH is currently having some updates and a new A-Head 532, T-Ram, 2 1050 Doms, and a huge x large Kaase roller cam. Hopefully I will be able to get it back together for testing in Feb or March 2012. GOLDRUSH was originally my high school ride and was turned into a race car after street racing cost me my permit ( LOTS to learn from my mistake!!!!). After racing in Brackets, Super Stock, & Modified Production, it was time for some serious updates. A new Pro-Gas chassis from Alston Engineering was installed along with lots of fiberglass and Lexan. The biggest change was the new 466 replacing the tried and true stroker BOSS 302. After working thru all the problems with the new chassis and motor, the car has become a beast. It is an absolute rush to drive and unforgettable if you see it make a pass down the track.

Hi to all new friends. I live near Christiansburg, Va. about 20 miles from Va Tech. I will post more pics of GOLDRUSH as soon as i can get them scanned and loaded. Have lots of video too, but is VHS and will have to be converted to digital before I can post. I will work on that. As you can tell, I'm an old school old dog, and I generally use stuff until it's broken beyond repair or worn slap out.
