What would you guys do?
Long story will try to make short. I went to the track Friday night to get some more TT . The Night was going pretty good until the last pass of the night. The engine shut down on the last pass wouldn't start back up . load the car on trailer pulled plugs and charged battery. Reinstalled plugs engine cranked an ran. At this point thought alt and batt was bad, finished loading up and headed home . Saturday I back up to the shop to unload starts up runs and backs off the trailer into shop. Dies! I go to the tool box get socket and ratchet to see if the engine will crank over by hand. Will not turn!
Pushed car into shop stall started to disasseble. Pulled the intake and the plug that goes in at the back of the lifter bores ( small block 351W) was blown out and laying in the lifter valley.Finished disassembaling Monday . took to machine shop Tuesday. Called today (Wednesday) Crank is now broken . The machine shop said it needed straightend and it broke while they were straightning it.
Should I make them pay for some , all or not even bother? Same machine shop did all of the work and is now doing the work.
How can I keep the plug from comming out again? Thanks Whitey

Mike,
Call a crank specialist like Adney and get his opinion. Maybe he can help you with a new crank as well.
See my signature for the web address.
Good luck and hope you can get it going before BG.

Hey, sorry to hear your engine went soft.
I guess I'm thinking that if the crank was bent it wasn't any good anyway. The shop was trying to save you money trying to straighten it out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it goes Snap.
Sounds like its time for a Big Block!!
Good luck, I hope you can get it together in time.
Bill

There is 1 guaranteed way to keep that crossover plug from EVER blowing out. Procure two (2) HSS 1/2 NPT taps. Have a local tool grinder shorten one of them by 1/3rd from the tip. NOTE: the hole is machined at about a 5 to 7 ° angle, you must follow the angle of the hole. Start with the unmolested tap...ON AN ANGLE, cut threads till it just bottoms. Continue tapping with the shortened tap till it bottoms. Clean out chips. Get an aluminum 1/2 NPT allen head plug (JEGS # 555-100404 ) and with a dab of sealer, screw it in the hole, DONE. NOTE this also works on 8.2 deck blocks BUT...you must shorten the TOP of the plug to clear the manifold. HTH.
