I was wondering about Q16. in my pulls class, Methane or alcohal fuels are not allowed,, will Q16 get me disqualified ?

Re: Q16
Its got unicorn tears and the sweat from Chuck Norris' balls in it.............
Its an oxygenated fuel, to my knowledge it does not contain nitro or methanol, they should be able to tell you if its legal or not, if I ran gas this would be the stuff I would run though.............

Different pulling associations have different rules according to where you pull, but my friend is allowed to use it here. It really works

Re: Q16
We run Q16 in a few. If your class allows it and you have the compression it will be worth some power.
Re: Q16
It doesn't have alky or methane. It does contain MTBE.
And of course the sweat from Chuck Norris's balls.
We run it with great success. Only gas we will use, now if only they would let us switch to alky (what a weight savings on a boosted car).

NO ... the oxygenate in Q16 is MTBE.
The fuel representative at the last Engine Masters Contest was very sure about that.
Re: Q16
Tertiary-butyl methyl ether is the oxygenating agent also known as mtbe it is made from a chemical reaction of methanol and isobutylene. Q16 is good stuff , but I don't understand why so many rules are out there outlawing methanol just don't make sense.

That compound is NOT an alcohol of any kind.
WATER is not classified as oxygen or hydrogen either.
EDIT: this was merely to inform so as not to "muddy the waters" about this fuel

Q16
Now while were at, I read a few post's that said it was best to flush your system out when done running, whats the real scoop ?

Draining your system of Q16 after use is for keeping the integrity of the fuel as the oxygenate can evaporate if subjected to atmosphere for extended periods of time.
It has nothing to do with hurting the fuel system.
Re: Q16
we drain it out just to save the fuel like stated above. of course our motor is 9.5:1 so we just put some pump gas in to drive around at the house.
the only bad parts about the stuff that I know of are it cost a lot and smells & taste (you will know what I mean the first time you pour it) like the worst thing ever.

I did not say it was an alcohol , methanol is a chemical it is not an alcohol it is only given that slang term because old timers called it wood alcohol because it is distilled. Methanol is no more an alcohol than mtbe is .
Water is what it is and composed of what it is .

Will it corrode your Alum. carb parts or reg. in any way if left there for long periods of time?

No more than pump gas with oxygenate as part of it.
Re: Q16
My engine builder says 35-40hp and mine is not gonna be much higher compression than you have so I am running it, I could see how some classes would not allow it though.

I've used it as low as 9.5-1, it seems the lower comp stuff gets a better "kick" from it, but more comp = more power.
