Thunder.. looking at the video I don't see a bounce or a hop that would cause that slip joint to break. I use to have a hop in my truck that was REALLY bad and could get by without breaking sometimes. Check out my videos on youtube.I wonder if the skip or hop that you have at the end of the pull would be the slip joint breakinging... When installing your drive shaft are you making sure your u-joints are lined up? And I put a drive shaft from a 1 ton Chevrolet on my truck. There about 3 times bigger than a Ford drive shaft. I finally got rid of my bounce by redoing my hitch.

OK so you found a Crushed Spring perch. Now my next question is have you got Big 6" or better suspension blocks between the spring and Axle. If you do get rid of them. Try running none or 3" max.

When you build your new spring perch get some off a Corp. 14 bolt . There Cast Iron and would give under pressure, Also now with both spring perches cut off it's a good time to put the pinon angle where you want it.

Just a Heads up when you add block to your suspension it's gives the axle leverage to work back and forth. Try to keep your u bolts as short as possible and make sure they stay tight.

I have no blocks in the rear. Its all spring and clamped together. I wound up making some perches out of 1/4" thick c-channel. 8" long boxed and gussetted. I set my pinion angle to 13 degrees and dropped the t-case 1.5" for now. It looks to have made my angle at the t-case 10times better.

I also came across some front springs with a 3750lb capacity that i may try.

As far as my driveshafts this is what i'm running on 3" tube.

I don't think I would change front springs yet. The new spring pads and correcting the driveshaft angle should have solved your problem. I've seen alot of highboy trucks with two or three leaves in the front.

pullin truck breakage - Page 2 Empty update

Post  thunder74-79 June 17th 2012, 11:39 pm

pulled the truck a couple times this weekend. Friday night on a really dry clay track the truck thought it was a jack rabbit right at the start. So for sunday i took some weight out of the front and moved it mid ship. Moved 2 clamps on the rear leafs around as well. The truck came out of the hole beautifully and hooked awesome!!! Took it a few feet shy of 300 and just started digging in... No noticable hop bounce or buck like i was experiencing. It just flat ran great!! Between the adjustable shocks in the front and pinion angle set right I think we have most the bugs worked out. Just need to remember to put the rear bed bolts in before the next one. Lol

Thanks for all the help I will post a video up when i get a couple extra minutes.

One more little thing to help is to run 12 psi in the front tires.
