bearing clearance problems

im putting a small block chev together using a dart splayed cap block and scat 9000 crank, The problem is i am using King bearings and the front main has 3 thou clearance but the center 3 have 4 thou clearance and the thrust bearing has 3 thou clearance. The crank measures good so it must be the block but i havent measured it yet, I just want to confirm that if i use an undersized bearing on any main, i have to do the same on all other mains.

Yep,I agree

As others have mentioned, the main bearing housing bores may need some attention. On another note, it doesn't seem to matter how you achieve your desired bearing clearance (as you mentioned) as long as you arrive there!

400 bucks later the block is line honed and my clearance with a 1 under bearing is 3 thou. Thanx for the replies

Its very common on a new block to have to do this, they are deliberatly undersized to allow you to get the desired fit.

i dont mind if the journals are undersized but it would be nice if the journals were all the same size. The same bearings in 2 different journals gave me 1 thou different clearances.

Just a big IMPORTANT part of engine building. Just do it right and get it done.
