Drag Week '09 epilogue - Now with Photo Link
Coles notes version; broke a valve spring and dropped a valve just after our check point in Cadiz OH. on day four (Thursday) enroute to National Trails raceway. Unable to aquire parts and make repairs in time so finished the race on the roll back. Bummer!!
Did any of you guys make it to the track(s) and drop by and say Hi? I talked to so many people I can't recall who was who?
The car performed well (mostly) but with 255r70X15's it was like driving on ice with any rpm on the starting line. Made good photo ops for the HRM guys tho! On the Sun T&T coming off on idle I managed a 13.2@117mph! Took a few runs to get used to it and was running consistant low/mid 12's@114-116mph, at US131 first thing in the AM was second car down the track and in the cool air ran 12.15@116.22 thought I may get an 11sec slip but temps warmed up and was back to low 12's, plus got greedy on the starting line and spun the tires.
As for the experience I had a blast met many great people, racer and nonracer alike, and the fact that the car was sort of an underground hit with both racers and spectators and even the HRM staff just made it all that much more fun.
Need to thank TomP my codriver for the trip for all his help. Two left on this trip and two made it back. Amazing!

Sorry to hear of your troubles, Michael, but, glad you enjoyed yourself and had some fun. Sounds like the car would be a real screamer with some traction! Congratulations, regardless. Maybe next time

I was on my way out to Muncie on Monday and had some car trouble (thermostat). That put me late getting there and you had already rolled out for Martin.
I did get to see the '57 make his pass...what a ride.
There were some Very cool rides that participated for sure....Very cool event.
After seeing the cars and knowing what they were up against, it makes me think that I would like to try to do it someday.
Too bad you had some bad luck...are you going to try it again next year?

Yes I'll be back next year. Arrived home at 3AM Tue and after getting up and running some errands I was at the machine shop discussing the new engine and dropping off parts for balancing. Gear Vendors on order and have arranged time at the body and chassis shop over the winter. Now that I have run the event I still need to finish the event!
Would also like to do "The Bash" next year as well. We'll see.
Michael.
