Re: Pro stock heads
Im thinking the power capability of the heads will far exceed the capability of the stock block in most cases but Im pretty sure they will physically bolt on as long as they are 4.9" bore spacing
dont hold me to this...I dont know much.

Re: Pro stock heads
A stock block will go to 4.6" bore with a lot of work, ie. bored and sleeved. Not something cheap, but it can be done. Mike Lough has done a few, as I would imagine have others. I think Frank Merkl has a DOVE block that is bored way out there with 8 sleeves in it. As said before, the stock blocks are not going to live long with 1200 hp on tap. Vandy did more than that back in the day before performance blocks were produced, but the lifespan was what it was. Is this something that class rules or such dictate a "stock" block?IcallhimGeorge wrote:a stock block wont go 4.600 bore so no.

Re: Pro stock heads
my Dove-A block is not sleeved ( 1 sleeve only because the motor eat a rock on 1 hole) 4.505" bore -C460 heads with 1.850" ex valves with a slight radias on the top of the bore(down .200") for the ex valve clearance , 1428hp@7500rpm & 1006 ft/tq @ 7400rpm , would have made over 1500 hp@ 8500 rpm, but there were too many chevy boy's watching!!!!

Re: Pro stock heads
if your buying the raw castings from Ford Racing , bolt holes might be able to be located to standard pattern. valve seats same thing , can be cut for smaller valves. Have a lot of money on hand , and then some more $$$$$$

Dan is correct, the bolt holes can be relocated on the raw E460 castings, but bring a LARGE billfold Unless you are dead set on using them on a stock block, there are far more economical choices. Jmho...

Re: Pro stock heads
lets just say this if you can't afford a new Prostock block then don't even think about buying a set of Prostock heads, because it is not a cheap head to build. They do not come with seats or guides or any other stuff for that matter and the cost to have it all put in and worked over is very expensive to say the least.

Re: Pro stock heads
What for JR? Are you building a real Pro Stock engine? If you are not, then a pair of iron CJ's will work better in your street build than the new pro stock heads EVER could. It's all about the most appropriate head for the package....not the "best" head.J R wrote:Will a set of them fit on a 460 wedge block 70s model.

For the record, Van did not have a passenger car cylinder block fail in any of those blown alcohol funny car builds. The engine's were high maintenance, yes....but aren't ALL funny car builds high maintenance?schmitty wrote: As said before, the stock blocks are not going to live long with 1200 hp on tap. That definately speaks volumes for what these blocks can do in the hands of a person who knows his stuff about tune and setup.
