Time to join the BBF club - 521" P51 build
I have been a small block Ford guy for years, but having listened to my boss and friends harass me about big blocks I decided that I was going to build one for myself to see what all the hoopla is about This engine is destined for my 65 Mustang street car. The goal for the car is to have just enough power to get in to trouble but still be able to get on the highway and cruise for hours at a time. (Pump gas and a T56 speed will help)
Stock block

Kasse P51 heads are on order courtesy of Kaase and crew
Kaase supplied solid roller cam (they haven't told me specs as of yet)
Victor Intake from Lem Evans
Ford Racing oil pan from Lem Evans
The motor should end up right around 10-10.3:1 compression. It will also be Fuel Injected and be spinning an alternator, power steering pump (with hydro boost brakes) and an air conditioning pump. The machine work will be done at Advanced Engine & Machine here in Salina KS. Marc Brown has built numerous BBF engines for people in this area. Hopefully if time and money allow I would like to get the motor on the engine dyno as well as the chassis dyno. Either way this should be one heck of an adventure. I will update with pictures and more info as things progress.
Thanks,
Chris

Man, you send a guy a bunch of money then he kicks you in the knees..
Here is a pic of the mock up damper I used on our PRI show motor this year.
Here is a pic of the accessory drive that we had at PRI too. Other than the C&C aluminum block my motor should look identical to this (especially since that motor had my pan, intake and accessories on it )

Cool build! What are you doing for front suspension to fit the big block? I look forward to seeing your progress.

I don't have any good pictures of the front end, but I installed a Rod & Custom Mustang II front end a while back. I just go the car back from getting new doors, quarters, trunk drop downs and mini tubbed. I am working on getting the motor, trans and 8.8" rear mocked up and then the car is due to be dropped off in Kansas City for final body work and paint this fall.
Here is a pic of the car from around 2000. I am planning on going back with the same original gold color but switching the interior from the tan to black.

Re: Time to join the BBF club - 521" P51 build
That's what I am hoping for. I talked to Cliff @ Kaase's and he is prepping my P51 heads and also supplying the cam, oil pump and timing set for the motor. That only leaves me needing to buy lifters, pushrods, rockers, head studs, valve covers and gaskets and I should have all the parts to complete the motor. I'm starting to get excited. As soon as the top end parts show up I plan on getting some pictures of the parts and hopefully of some machined bottom end parts as well.
The rear suspension pieces are on their way now too. Thankfully things are coming together at a decent pace compared to the last few years stagnation. I also ordered a rendering of the car. That should be complete here in a week or so and I will have something to show off what the car should hopefully look like by next spring/summer.

Just curious what you're going to do with your extra time now that you won't need to fix something with the engine every other weekend...?
Re: Time to join the BBF club - 521" P51 build
Ahhhh now common The old small block was pretty reliable for what it was.
Once this motor is done and the car finished I am going to move on to my 62 Fairlane and start the buildup of a 480" E460 headed pro stock motor with twin turbos!

I received a nice little care package today from the guys at Kaase. Beautiful set of P51 heads, FRPP Timing Set, Kaase Oil Pump and a custom Kaase solid roller cam! I left my camera at the house or else I would have some more BBF porn to share. Maybe tomorrow...

That is going to be a sweet car. What type of fuel injection are you going to run?

I haven't quite settled on an EFI system yet. I am leaning towards the new Holley HP system though.
The accessory system is one that we are developing for market at Innovators West. That is the initial prototype pictured. There are a few tweaks that we have done since that setup though. The finished version will be tested on my motor as well as a few other first before we start taking orders.

The goal is for a lower cost alternative to the other systems on the market currently. We are also trying to keep it a little less flashy I guess you would say. Less street rod, more muscle car. Initially we are working on the setup that will include the a/c, p/s and alt, but future versions will allow for less accessories. We are also starting with the BBF and then will work our way around to other platforms. The prototype shown looked decent, but i'm going back and working to move everything rearward a touch for more room at the front of the engine.

Well less expensive is definitely what I have been looking for. The $2500 everyone else wants is just retarded IMHO. I don't want or need polished billet aluminum. Straight up black powder coating would be fine with me. If you could figure a way to make it shorter would also be awesome.
Keep us posted.
