71 460 Mustang Dyno Results
I ran my 71 Mustang on Dynojet 248 chassis dyno, with Richmond 5-speed, 4.11 gears. After jet changes and advancing the timing, it made, 406 RWHP and peak torque at 450 ft*lbs. Torque stayed between 450 and 400 from 3100-about 5200RPM. My combination is listed below.
Looking for comments, criticisms, etc. Do these numbers sound about right for this combination? I know the cam is small, I may consider another cam, but would want to keep something that I can still occasionally drive on the street. Thanks
DOVE heads, 2.19/1.72 valves, ported and flowed: In: 320@.500 , 340@.600 , 349@.700 Ex: 174@.500 , 191@.600 , 200@.650
10:1CR TRW L2404 pistons
Comp XE274 cam
Hooker 1 7/8 headers, 3.5 collector
Weiand stealth intake
Pro Systems built 1000cfm, 4150 carb
3in exhaust into Magnaflow type of mufflers
Fuel: VP ms109

That's a nice combo. If I may offer a bit of insight? The cylinder head's numbers look great! That intake although has plenty of "eye appeal" will make your stomach churn if you flow it!

Before I rebuilt this engine, I ran the same cam with a port-o-sonic and then I switched to the stealth. I could feel a "seat of the pants" increase in mid-range torque with the stealth.

I don't know yet, I'm planning to take it to the track in the next week or so.

To answer your question, I'm not sure. I did see flow results of an intake like the one mentioned and the results were "eye-opening"! I sold a brand new Stealth (in the box) after viewing the results. If this combination was mine and cylinder heads flowing that good (heads mentioned), I would prefer a single plane intake manifold such as a well "massaged" Victor. When I look at the entire package listed, it seems to me the intake (dual plane) is out of place for top performance. On the other hand if this combination was just "putting" around the streets and idling through the drive-in, it would be fine.
