Yes John we need to have some beer and talk about this.
You need to get this sorted so we can have a grudge race hahahaaha.
Same truck as yours but 2 tone brown Lariet 79 full load 466 11.5-1 ported 75cc edels's weiand regular stealth 1000cfm Holley HP stock fuel lines but a mechanical holley 110 pump, 4.30gears wrong stall at 2700 ran 13.2 at 105mph.

I think I am too low geared hit the traps at 6200rpm stock rods with the 295's at 28inches.

No, not really. It sat all summer long because I was too busy to race. I went to the track in September, and before I went, I hooked air to the fuel line and blew back through the tank to blow the sock off. Must have worked, because it quit laying down, but it still didn't run great. Put the timing light on and revved it up high, and it never went past 36 total. I pulled the exhaust off of it and got a 14.1 at 94 mph which is alright, but it still wouldn't have beat the old orange 74. I have a 750 vac secondary Holley on it now, it might have went 13's with the 850.
I'm not messing with it anymore, I'm going to start on the stroker in a couple of weeks. Wondering if I should use the D0VEA block, or use the stocker with it's longer cylinder walls.

I'm not sure what your track altitude is of the weight of the truck but it should run 12s. I'm thinking the converter is hurting you. I ran 12.9 104 with d0ves with stock valves and no porting with my truck at 4200lbs. I ran best at 40* timing but with those heads it should around 32-34

Well, shoot. That's a bummer you haven't figured it out.
My old '79 short bed ran 12.80s at sea level. DOVE-As with stock valves and only the smog bumps removed. The short block was a rebuilt car engine with the car rods and cast Badger pistons. The performance parts consisted of a 4000 RPM stall converter, Crane solid cam--246/256 @ .050, 282/292 adv., .563/.583 lift--Torker II intake, Holley 750 pumper and too small Flowtech headers with glass packs.
I was running quite a bit more gear than you though--4.11s with a Detroit Locker in an early Bronco 9" rear end assembly.
I'm sure it had more in it as I had the cam set up on the advanced mark on the gear and the carb was too small as well as the afore mentioned headers. I was shifting at 5200 and going through the lights at 5800.
Oh yeah--3900 lbs race weight.

Re: SCJA heads on a stock 460
I did a 502 engine this past June for a customer; the whole shot - dyno tuned and everything.
It was just under 670 pounds of torque and at 766 horsepower.
He went to the strip, (he claimed it was just the way I gave it to him), and was greatly disappointed that he went 12.40 something at 104 MPH. Him and his buddies changed plugs, carburetor, distributor, timing and everything they could think of on that engine; it just would not improve.
He simply could not understand and would not believe that something ELSE beside the engine was holding it back.
It definitely was not an engine problem.

Sounds like someone didn't check fuel flow required to make 750+ HP.
104 mph - yikes.
Probably kept changing carb jetting as it looks lean (very lean) - Gdamn carb lol

These trucks are very heavy. You have a very small cam, you do not have much gear, you have too much convertor. 14.30's is not too bad of a time. If you tighen up the convertor, the MPH should come up.John I. wrote:" />

Re: SCJA heads on a stock 460
I'm thinking he may have a fuel volume issue. He said the truck shaved a bunch off the 60' but overall ET only fell 1 sec and it feels as though its laying down.
Small or kinked fuel lines? restriction someplace? If it isn't getting the volume it ain't gonna pull.

4thHorseman that's a beautiful car! The '69 fastback is my all-time favorite Mustang body style.
