Something I learned this weekend.....
LOL....converter stuff is getting old
I know many many of the guys were making changes in suspensions, timing, etc this weekend. Due to the track conditions nobody had the perfect setup. Just thought I would share where my biggest issue was.
After reviewing the logs I see why my car didn't run any quicker than it did this weekend. I showed up with a brand new un-tested converter that was supposed to be tight enough to spray. The car ran the same on spray as it did 2 weeks ago on motor (about 7-8° cooler air two weeks ago). Hindsight says I would have prob been better off swapping back to the prior "motor" converter
It was struggling. Turns out it was just blowing through the converter again. I was leaving at 4400 and it hit 7k and shifted into high gear just under 1 second out. About 45 feet off the starting line. Made for a long ride in high gear (and way past peak hp at the finish line) . All the other passes look just about identical. Also shows some wheel spin down track in the little squiggles in the line.
It will come out this week and go back. My converter guy is gonna swap it out no charge and build me a 10" nitrous converter. Same one as many of his X275 customers use. This was a 9". Just too much torque for it I guess.
This log is from the final round.

Re: Something I learned this weekend.....
I've never personally experienced as much converter issues that some here have so I cant say I know the feeling of that but..... What we have always ran into was too tight of converters since most companies always stuck us in blown pro-mod deals behind our sbf.
I will say that we gave the dyno sheet to PTC on our last nitrous motor and told them where we wanted it to stall and when we got it back it would go to 7000 rpm. we sent it back one time and it was perfect. he told us that most dyno sheets are "fudged" for the customers. I guess bennett's is accurate. LOL

David,
My car was almost 2.5 tenths off from my normal all motor passes. My butt-o-meter said mine was spinning down track too. I never got a hold of the track.
I guess I did all right first time on a pro tree and first time spraying. I shift at 7000 and normally go through the traps at 6700. When I sprayed it had the shift light on 150 ft before the end. I may try it on the converter and see were it goes.

Lem Evans wrote:David, at what point does the spray come on?
I had it set for 0.04 sec after T-brake release. Never got a chance to try turning it on down track.

Thanks, that's what I was asking.....just wondering if you were spraying the converter.
Phillip's best converter, at this point, is a 9.5" in his Top Dragster deal.....which would lead me to believe that the dia. of the converter is not all of the story.

Yeah, the new one will have totally different "guts". Not sure of the exact details, but my converter guy hit my "motor" converter perfectly. Anyoen can miss a setup on one...I'm sure it will right this go round.
Re: Something I learned this weekend.....
I'm going to be making some calls tommorrow regarding a converter. David mine does the same thing as yours except it never stays below 7500 on the sauce. Converters are voodoo to me, but I'm guessing they are pretty easy to miss on.

Dennis walked me through what does what in the converter over at Midwest and it totally baffled me.

it's fun to teach people how converters work and what is actually on the insides of them. you can just change one or two things or move fin angles a little and get were you need to be sometimes.
