What would it take??
Guys I was just wondering what it would take to run with these small block (up to 460 Cubic’s) grudge cars all over the country. Let’s say we leave out the turbo cars (FOR NOW) and just try and go against the NOS cars.
We have guys on this board with a lot of HP and NOS and they are still not close to running in the 4.7 range in the 1/8 mile
Let’s try and keep this super combo 600 inches or less with one carburetor.
Milan has even gone as far as taking away the weight restriction on BB’s to try and level the playing field.
I’m dead serious about this post, let’s try and stay on topic with this one!!!

I'd think in a 3000lb. car ..probably 1500 to 2000HP and balls of steel!!

Re: What would it take??
Bare minium a 598 with c , a , or profiler heads and some spray and good chassis tuning skills. it takes some serious power to get a light chassis car in the 4.70 range

I forgot to mention they are doing this on a 28 to 29.5 10.5 tire!

bruno, you and Jon both fall into what you just wrote but neither can get out the 5's! ( no disrespect here man) what's a "little black box"?? Bruno you and blake might be the close's to what I'm asking.
what would you do to get yourself into the 4's if you had the money?

Re: What would it take??
I think for the most part the guys on here like myself are just a hobby racer, I dont sink every penny I have into the car, and I dont know of any small tire heavy hitter spray combo's on here. Honestly I think the Yellowhorse is pretty jiggy with what he has...............give that man a "serious" nos motor and I think you'll see the answer.
Right now I'm just puttin a whiff of nos to a "na" motor, so is Nick IMO..................I plan on some changes this winter and see what 563 inches, a set of P51's and a good dose of nitrous will do..................I know Larry T is giving this a go and fighting some gremlin's along the way.

its in the works ........
couple of things , weight is key , in the right spots of course , honestly my deal can go teens , no doubt but when you race 2 times a year at a different track its never gonna happen ... if i lean on her some more i feel 0's wouldnt be a problem ....... but like some said earlier i dont want to be a one hit wonder ...i want to run consistent 90's off the trailer and when i want to spray to run in the 70-80 .......
as far as jon and blake's deal good air , great 60's and a 300-400 on a progressive sould net them high 90's or low 5'.0's .........
put you guys have to understand ....... it takes alot of beans to go from a 5.0 to a 4.9 ...alot ....and to run 5.40 to 5.20 on a marginal track takes alot also ...laptops rule this arena .......
black boxes ..... progressives, grid's, traction control, wheelie control .....etc

Re: What would it take??
we have a true 10.5 class here local, 605" limit, 1 gun, 3250#s, no traction control etc etc those guys ran 0's and teens last saturday here in the heat, I think the record is a low 80....................all BBC stuff. I may try my hand at it next year, I dont plan on going to any finals with my wore out money lol.
Nick is right it takes a lot to run those times...............the guys that do dont run those times like a bracket car and just change oil every so often. Hell they change tires every race nearly.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

alot of that depends on your engine builder , compression, quench , etc ...... how much dope will you be putting to her ?

Re: What would it take??
My car ran it's fastest time with a 100 shot on it at the ford race. All 60 ft.............
I stepped up the spray to a 200 shot 40% out of the hole and ramped it in to 100% by a little over 2 seconds.
Big mistake, after the front tires touch down and the rest of the hooch comes in I had already lost the weight on the rear tires. I had it blow the tires off dang near at the line and a couple of times between the 330 and 660.
Also my car is 63% front and 37% rear then at 128 mph plus you have a ton of air down force on the nose and the fox notch is getting light in the rear.
I could have added ballast in the rear bumper I think and went faster. Hp wasn't the problem at Ford Thunder , it was having the smarts to get it to the track............
You will see what mine will do at the MNRA finals @ Bowling Green I hope to have this nos deal figured out by then. The Ford Thunder race was the first time I have ever sprayed. No excuses just saying.
About two more passes and the outcome may have been different. I learned a ton in a short time thanks to Mat and Scott Keown and Jason "Barney" Hampton.
I would think it would take a good 600+ cid, 1200hp C headed engine and a 300-400 shot to run 4.70 at 3000+ lb. fox and do it repeatable.

Re: What would it take??
It takes a lot of money, determination, hard work, power management, the whole combination has to work together, plus you need a well prepped track to run on. Plus other factors such as weather play an important part also. It can be done with an approx 600" engine. My friend just won the Outlaw X275 event down in Reynolds, GA a couple weeks back. He was also running in the X275 class & had a really good chance of being in the finals in both classes They had bumped a fuel fitting in the pit between rounds so when he came to the starting line the starter saw something slightly dripping and backed him off. He fixed the fuel leak and continued to race Outlaw X275 and won that class. In the finals he ran a 4.74 at I believe 154.90 MPH. I am not going to give away the farm with every detail, but I will give you some general information. His engine is completely X275 legal which I think can be a maximum of 588, so I will leave the exact size of the engine to your imagination. For heads he is running the latest style TFS A460 18 bolt heads prepped by BES racing. The engine uses a single four newer style TFS intake and he is using (1) Induction Solutions fogger nitrous system on it. I believe to race in X275 he had to weigh approx. 3200 lbs. There are other heads that can be used such as C460, Profiler, Thor that will yield the same result. My friend chose to use the A460 heads because of the class rules & what he felt gave him the best chance to win and what his budget could afford. Hope this helps. Thanks and have a nice day!

Re: What would it take??
I wanted to bring this back up because when i was at Milan a few weeks ago for the Pritchett brother’s race I came across two mustangs with big fords in them and they were fast.
I'm talking 4.70's plus fast!
I guess one of the teams was from KY https://www.429-460.com/t15106-one-hell-of-a-runyou-have-got-to-see#180540
Neither team had BIG CUBIC ENGINES either. What they did have was engines built for a lot of Nitrous!! and both engines were built by BES ENGINES

Re: What would it take??
I will echo what has been said. High compression, max effort, lots of spray, but most of all power management, and chassis tuning, oh and you must have the time to test ALOT. My car has been 5.07 with a 32 when I went up to a 36 it didn't pick up any et at all just a bit of mph and I have balloon tires, so that tells me that without chassis work, or less weight I'm probly at a wall. These guys that are going those speeds on a small tire amaze me for sure. I don't feel a casual racer could get it done without a ton of help and unless you wanted to put all of your time and money into a program.

C's, Thors and Profilers are not X275 legal FYI. Although I think you are saying that. Anyway....
I'm building a Max-Effort Eliminator headed BB to run and be competitve in X275 trim. It'll take every bit of my engine builders know how and will involve plenty of conversation. MAy not be out this year since I just moved and bought a house but it will happen. Those who know me know that I won't do it unless I'm competitive. Fact is that Steve Jackson, Bruder, Troy Perez Sr, etc don't have anything that I don't have or can get. Point is even a dumb ass like me can get it done with the right combo of things
