You could go to Kristina Lawyer's website, www.lawyermotorsports.com and look at all the videos that have been taken with the GoPro. There are links from her site to You Tube. You'll also find a lot that they have done from Pat Freels and Robbie Freels's racecars. IMO she's our "resident expert" with the GoPro stuff.

I was getting ready to order one from Jegs. Kit seems to have anything you would ever need. And it's on sale....lol.

Re: GoPro Discussion
I was considering the GoPro, but after I found out about the Re-Play XD1080 that's the unit I want. Way smaller the the GoPro and from what I've read about it the sound quality is way better for motorsports. http://replayxd.com/

Is your car an open header car? Reason why I ask is the sound is fine with an open header car with the solid door on the go-pro when the camera is mounted on the outside. The good thing about the go pro is the fact that for you--you can also use it for diving because of the water proof case. I have the suction cup mount for outside, and the roll bar mount for the inside. Use the slotted door for when the go-pro is inside the car. When inside, you need to also use the spot meter function so the view outside is not washed out. Lastly you have to think about editing software to trim clips of the video you don't want.

I have a mustang and a dragster on the way, I plan on using it on both.
Does it come with editing software? If not what do I need to get?

Re: GoPro Discussion
It does not come with editing software. What program you get depends on whether you have a mac or a PC.
It also depends on how creative you want to be. If you just intend on uploading the go-pro vid by itself and just trim it, you can do what Jon does with Youtube. If you want to mix clips together, use slow motion, etc. there are a lot of programs out there for the PC that would work just fine for less then $50.

Oh--I forgot about that--GREAT POINT---make sure the SD card you get is a CLASS 8. Class 4 downloads too slow. I use a 32 GB SD card that is a class 10, which is rated at 20mb per second.

That's for sure (1.1" x 3.6") and a big plus for mounting on a race car, and only $300 and you get 1080 HD. There's also a thread on RacePaks forum where they are going to be releasing a V-Net Module that will allow you to power and trigger it on/off with the data logger .
Re: GoPro Discussion
The points about the GoPro being more versatile are valid. I can take mine on a non-racing vacation, use it under water, snorkeling....then put it in the '58 and use it for in-car.
A buddy bought the Replay and likes it also. It does look much simpler...
I also have a few of the Oregon Scientific action cameras that are great for putting under the car, in the engine compartment, in the dyno room, inside a CNC mill....or anywhere that you would never consider putting a camera. They are sealed, self contained, use an SD card...all just like a GoPro, but more compact, cheaper and easier to mount. Mine are an earlier version of this one : http://us.oregonscientific.com/cat-Action-Cams-sub-Waterproof-Action-Cameras-prod-ATCMini-Action-Video-Camera.html
They do not have good audio, but where I normally put them, that is not an issue.
I bought my first one about 5 years ago when I was doing tractor/trailer aerodynamic testing and development for UPS. I used it with a KFM ViceGrip mount and would clip it randomly on trucks to observe little strips of yarn, string and plastic tape that I would stick on various parts...determining the behavior of air flow.
The ViceGrip mount is now under the '58.......
Cool stuff...
