Been doing some thinking on the 2013 event already and based on the last 2 events this is what I am thinking/planning.
1.
3 classes
a. 1 bracket class no boxes, no throttle stops, door cars only, $500 garaunteed payout for first place 2nd and 3rd based on entries. Sportsman tree, $70 entry fee
b. 1 10.5 tire class, 10.5 inch wide slick or 12 inch wide DOT approved tire, power adders allowed but only one ie; one turbo or one blower or one stage of nitrous, no progressive controllers digi-sets or 7531 style boxes allowed. Heads up .400 Pro-tree 1/4 mile, $500 garaunteed payout for first place 2nd and 3rd place based on entries. $70 entry fee
c. Run What Ya Brung class (door cars only), this will be the no holds barred heads up class, big tires, little tires, power adders allowed, progressive and boost controllers and 7531 boxes allowed. This class will be run 1/8 mile, heads up .400 Pro-tree. NO DELAY BOXES OR THROTTLE STOPS ALLOWED! Garaunteed $500 payout for first place 2nd and 3rd place based on entries.
2.
I want to explain the payouts a little, Byron Dragway takes $30 per car for entry fee and the remaining $40 will be put into the prize money, Payouts will be; 1st place $500+50% of prize money, 2nd place will be 30% of prize money, and 3rd will be 20% of prize money.
3.
I am thinking of moving the race to mid September to avoid some other major events. As of right now these are the payouts that I will garauntee personally for each class for the 2013 event, prizes may get larger with sponsorships.

Thats a thought but most guys up here are set up for 1/4 mile although I can't see how that would be an issue on the bracket class, I will definitely take it into consideration Harold.

Just a little more clear on the tree. I had a .400, then a .500, then back. I don't need to be confused anymore than I already am.

I like the invite lock in deal, the electronic class has not done very good last year or this year.

10-4 there seemed to be quite a bit of confusion this year, I more than likely will not be racing in the event next year so I can make sure everything goes smoothly. I am also gonna try to time things so we can have an hour between rounds to cool down and do maintenence.

LOL yeah IL has got the worst Highways of any state I have ever been in, and been through Iowa where most of the roads are gravel outside city limits I hit a pothole once in "the city" (chicago) that one of those Smart cars woulda got stuck in.

Ok roads are Cadillac. You need to try Lousiana roads. Bump bump bump every damn 20' where there is a seam in the road.

It'll be hard to get Delay cars with those purses. We can all race local for $1200 for $50 entry. I know it's a Ford get together and that needs to be the thing to look at..Seeing your friends and their Fords!!Just Sayin..bigblok2000ranger wrote:richter69 wrote:most around here are set up for 1/8th mile.........

X2. These types of events need sponsors, plain and simple. We tried to run a series for 2+ years with no sponsor money and we failed....bad!

Ok back on track, lol. Talked to a few people and seems 1/8 mile would work for all classes any more thoughts opinions on this?
Yes there are a decent amount of rules especially in the 10.5 class but couple reasons
a. If I allow the 7531 boxes some guys will have a huge advantage.
b. Most of the heads up classes around here don't allow them anyways.
Maybe I should allow progressive controllers and digiset style delays though???

I understand this I am not gonna have a delay box class period 2 years and 2 cars total. The payout is not great at this point but with no sponsors as of now this will be coming out of my pockets. I have already been talking with Chris and we are gonna start working on sponsors yet this year. It can and was a great social event but I need to get a decent car count to keep this happening every year. There were alot of people that said they would make it that didn't, from the responses I was getting I honestly thought car counts would be in the hundreds (not just from this forum but several others). I hope to have a larger purse before the event next year with some sponsors just right now this is what I will garauntee.

Re: Powered By Ford Race 2013 thoughts!
Good luck, we tried telling you that there wasn't gonna be hundreds of cars, and honestly if there were there would have been serious format issues anyway as far as ladders and organization. The fact that the event was small worked in your favor. If the event was much larger you would have went crazy.bigblok2000ranger wrote:yellowhorse7 wrote:56Tbird wrote:It'll be hard to get Delay cars with those purses. Re: Powered By Ford Race 2013 thoughts!
Yeah you did, it was disorganised this year I think Ron and Bj were trying to figure out how to run the MDRA event as well and ours was a little off. I am changing a few things though and gonna try to make next years much better. We definitely need some cash sponsorship to pull in more cars, I am willing to do some of that if needed but we are gonna start bugging people yet this year for next years event
We are gonna set up a pre-registration through the website up for next years event.

Northern guys can like it or not but 1/8th mile racing is were the sport is going, especially for the sportsman racer. I say 1/8th mile.
As far as 7531's (which are outdated now anyway), progressives and digi-sets.....if you want to attract fast cars (if the pay out was worth it) then you must allow these components, plain and simple

Re: Powered By Ford Race 2013 thoughts!
Eric, 90 percent of the races around here are delay type 1/8 mile, and alot of members here run them too from what I see. Things are probably different up north like your neck of the woods.Myself,I'm really liking the nostaglia index on a pro tree.Everything seems to be changing fast. I think the economy has people trying to do something to pull more cars, but the bottom line is the cost to travel and keep one of these money pits running these days.If I can get healthy again , I'd love to come up if I can fit in a class with you. Like Yellowhorse said ,it's tough with no sponsors ,you almost have to have them unless you have alot of money you just want to give away.Best of luck to you in your future races!!

Good points! I personally don't want to just let this deal die out, so I would like to figure out how to make it better. The ideas on limiting electronics was to try and bring in more cars but if it will have the opposite effect then that can be changed for the 10.5 class, I would not mind a delay box class but the last two years it just hasn't brought out the cars and the two guys that did show up ended up having to run without the boxes. It looks like it will be an all 1/8 mile deal next year as of now.

Alright here are the revised Powered By Ford Race 2013 rules!!!
3 classes
a. 1 bracket class no boxes, no throttle stops, door cars only, $500 garaunteed payout for first place 2nd and 3rd based on entries. Sportsman tree 1/8 mile, $70 entry fee.
b. 10.5 tire class, 10.5 inch wide slick or 12 inch wide DOT approved tire, power adders allowed but only one ie; one turbo or one blower or one stage of nitrous. Heads up .400 Pro-tree 1/8 mile, $500 garaunteed payout for first place 2nd and 3rd place based on entries. $70 entry fee.
c. Run What Ya Brung class (door cars only), this will be the no holds barred heads up class. This class will be run 1/8 mile, heads up .400 Pro-tree. NO DELAY BOXES OR THROTTLE STOPS ALLOWED! Garaunteed $500 payout for first place 2nd and 3rd place based on entries.
I am thinking of moving the race to mid September to avoid some other major events. As of right now these are the payouts that I will garauntee personally for each class for the 2013 event, prizes may get larger with sponsorships.

Option C isnt really run what ya brung then, with the delay box rule. Just let them in. At this point you need less rules and more racers!

I guess wouldn't be much advantage to a delay box in a heads up class anyways.
