Got my P51s ported -- headed back to the track
Hopefully I will be at the next Friday night race at Famoso on 9/7 if its not too hot. Picked up 40 cfm on the exhaust side and intake numbers look great as well as I went with some 2.300 titanium intake valves. But the real test will be the Ets at the track!
A big thank you to Charlie Evans. He shipped out the heads while I was in Montana, before he even got my check for the work. Was easy and great to work with.
Here are some pictures. I put the motor back together yesterday afternoon while watching the YB Nationals on the live feed.

Re: Got my P51s ported -- headed back to the track
So car is back together and running. I used the flow tool I got and discovered that I was actually running 9.5 psi fuel pressure for the nitrous system when I was at Tenn. I am going to drop it to 7 psi and go from there.
I took a reading from right after the regulator and the big gauge was showing 2.5 psi more then the piece of crap 1 1/2 inch gauge. So much for accuracy. Its an aeromotive gauge to.

Re: Got my P51s ported -- headed back to the track
2.5 pounds is huge, I'm surprised it was running as good as it did on spray with that much FP.

No, still running the 282 / 296 @ .050 duration, .773 / .749 lift cam on a 112 lobe center.

This one. Its 5 inches across, its bigger then I thought it would be.

See--thats the thing, it only went 5.89 on a 150 shot, where here at home its gone 6.0Xs on motor all the time. So I knew something was off, but I thought it was just the heat and the 150 degree track temps.

A lot of us were baffled that day. Hopefully it will really pick up now that you got it dialed in.psfracer wrote:richter69 wrote:which flow tool you have now?

Re: Got my P51s ported -- headed back to the track
yeah i dunno, i put green oil back in mine, changed the plate, and the fuel.......... went from a 50 to a 23 so go figure...... and picked up 5 mph.......this was is near same da........I thought TVRP was shit but now Im not so sure.
what jet are you using in your flow tool? I had one I made but it was fluttering real bad, I bought a new reg and one of those big ass flow tools from I-S, I checked my old reg and it was dead on where my old tool showed and the fluttering stopped lol. I went ahead and swapped the reg and put the other in the trailer for a spare. The quick disconnect on the I-S tool is awesome.

Re: Got my P51s ported -- headed back to the track
a 73 jet is in the flow tool. Should I flow it without it? I could see what difference it makes.
Should I hook it up closer to the distribution block or right at the regulator?
Cool--so next year if one of my regulators goes out, I know where to go. To the FABIO PARTS TRAILER.

Re: Got my P51s ported -- headed back to the track
Yeah, the tune that was given to me, 7 psi was to be the starting point so I didn't burn anything up. So we will see what happens. I plan on starting at 7 then reading the plugs.
What do most people run? A 4 size spread (24-20) and 6 psi? That is what I hear most often.

let the plugs and timeslip tell you what it wants.

Re: Got my P51s ported -- headed back to the track
I use a 4 jet on the smaller tunes( below 28) and a six jet spread for larger tunes ( over 28 ). You will probably end up between 5 1/4 and 5 3/4 fp when all is said and done. As far as jet spread goes I think every one and every different combo is a little different.
Re: Got my P51s ported -- headed back to the track
Where'd you get that flow tool from? It's got a McDaniel gauge on it. They're local to me and manufacture good stuff.
