C6 questions
To start off with let me preface this with: THIS WILL NOT BE A HIGH DOLLAR PARTS OR SWAP DEAL.
So i want to replace the manual in the car with a Auto....and after reading enough I guess a C6 is the answer for the time being...
I am looking for a CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP solution,
I want to start with a stock BB c6 and put it behind the motor. Motor is about 400-500hp
What absolutely needs to be done to have it live say the rest of the season and maybe most of next year to a STOCK c6 with around a 3500-4000 convertor.
I cant do a 400 dollar manual valve body and a 600 rebuild right now. i just dont have it. And i want to take the t56 out of the car in one piece before i do any harm to that and work on selling that and then build a better trans with that money?

Re: C6 questions
yes and no.....
Craigslist has a bunch of stockers for sale in the 100-400 range.....
WHat i am more curious about is...A. will a stock c6 live behind a 500hp motor better than the stock t56 and B. If not, what is absolute minimum I need to do.
I am trying to either see or trade the t56 i have now (with bbf bell) for a cuilt c4 or PG, or maybe a built C6....Just keeps seeming to fall through when i get close.

Sell the T56 and build a proper C6

I understand that. But until someone buys it I am where I am.
I do not have a budget for a built trans right now. And I am not sitting around saving till I can to go racing. I want to go racing, I dont want to break what I have while i am trying to sell it.
I am trying build what I can afford.
Re: C6 questions
Frank ,I'd think a stock C6 will hold up behind 500 HP. I pull with my motorhome and an enclosed trailer with a stock C6 and that puts a hell of a strain on a tranny.I may be wrong, but they are pretty tough trannys . I've ran one in my old 390 Comet for 20+ years with a stall convertor with about 350HP and never hurt it.

Here is my answere to your question a c6 with good clutches 4 on 4 or 4 on 5 clutches with good shift kit deep pan large cooler and all of the clearances set right it will live with 500hp with no problems.
The right way to go about it is if have the money go ahead and build it right the first time !

Re: C6 questions
Now for some dumb questions:
1. Is replacing clutches something i can do myself.....NO trans knowledge yet, but i have no knowledge of anything before i built my car to begin with. Any special tools required?
2. Manual valve body: is there a recommended one?
3. is there a specific BB c6 to look for? Differences between car and truck?

Re: C6 questions
Frank,I have a C-6 I could part with. It was behind a 500hp 460 and then I went to 700hp and a powerglide. The trans only has 20 miles on it and maybe 2 passes on street. It has a shift kit and was rebuilt by Master Transmission in Colonial heights,VA. I don't know a damn thing about trans so I can't tell you what year or where it came from unless somebody here can tell me how to read the tags. I was saving it for a backup but don't think I will need it. I also have 2 converters...one is the 1.8 pilot and one is the 1.3 pilot. If interested I could find the part# on converters and make a package deal. I could meet you half way if interested. Anything to help a brother out.
