BBF Billet Race Head ????????
... ok guys, we are in the process of designing many new billet cylinder-heads, and i propose to you guys some questions ??? ... if a new BBF Billet Race Head were available, what application,deck-height, bore space, valve sizes, C.I. ranges, RPM/piston speed, manifolding, fuel deliveryetc. would be most sought after ??? ... now this would obviously be a fairly exspensive cylinder head, considering its billet, but our price points should be very very nice for this head ...
... obviously, we have design criteria, features and such in mind for what i want to do with the head, but i am basically telling you we want to build a new BBF Billet Race Head, and we want to know what you guys would like, or expect to see ??? ... anything goes here, so lets hear it ??? ...

Re: BBF Billet Race Head ????????
Cost will be your biggest problem to overcome..... not alot of guys have the $$$ to get a set.
1) Flexible design with 4-5 different intake / exhaust ports for different sized engines with a std location or optional raised locations.
2) Valve sizes from 2.2 to 2.5 for various bore sizes, same with chambers 60-100cc range avaliable.
3) Use readily avalaible exhaust flanges and location to allow reuse of headersguys have.
4) 18 Head Bolts and use a std head gasket.
5) Allow fitment of avaliable cast manifold, A460? C460? Thor?
In other words make the product very flexible and fit the bill for everyone from Pulling Trucks to ProMod at a reasonable price.

You all might want to wait a few weeks and see what comes out from Edelbrock at the SEMA, PRI, and IMIS shows.

I would like to se a billet thor head. Friend here in sweden had his second set cracking in the intake port.
632 turbo build. Seems like it happens to other thor turbo motors in the us allso.
Do you have a number that i can reach you.

Re: BBF Billet Race Head ????????
I would love a billet Thor Gen 2 style head that used all the same hardware. I dont know how quick you will sell these things. It would probably go over better with easily avail. billet blocks too. I think most promod guys go to 5.0 inch stuff turbo or 5.2-3 nitrous to get the billet block and heads,so it might be hard to find a huge market. I do think given quality billets parts that are easily available some would chose to stick with BBF stuff especially if they have already been running them and stepping up to faster classes. I would go post over at yellowbullet.com there are some max effort guys over there that are not on this site. KS

Probaly something like the AJPE muscle head or the Noonan X1 head. Don't forget that you need a billet lightweight block with external oil pump also....

Re: BBF Billet Race Head ????????
Guys, I think the question is geared more toward serious max effort billet heads. There is nothing "sportsman" about creating a billet sportsman head. Besides, 95% of the field would be left out because they could not afford to run them.
There is no need to make a solid billet Thor head. If you are making over 3000 hp and want to use a Thor head then you can just fill a Thor head solid, and for a lot less cost.
3-4 years ago, I met a guy working on an overhead cam 385 Series head. I don't know the status of that project. I think it was a 3-valve head. By the way, I've thought about a 3-valve design for our head but it would further limit the classes where such a head is allowed. Nevertheless, it's a very easy feature to add to the current design.
I think Kramer's understands the question the best.

P.S.: Given that the NHRA is essentially sinking slowly and not helping Ford I continue to hang onto a thread that someone like Force will end up with the NHRA and/or fund it provided they allow Ford-derived engines to run again.

Re: BBF Billet Race Head ????????
Allready broke two sets that had waterjacks filled. And what i hear we are not the only ones whit this problem on the Thor head and turbo. The Thor heads are some nice castings but seams like this engine have past the point for what cylinderheads with waterjackets can take.

I don't think NHRA is sinking...I believe we're watching a slow suicide, just like NASCAR

Re: BBF Billet Race Head ????????
You "broke" two filled sets of Thors? Or do you only mean to say that they are simply cracking (as you noted above)? Can't you just weld up the cracks? Also, I'm curious what you are using for water jacket filler.kjebba wrote:Already broke two sets that had waterjackets filled. In my post above, I was thinking more along the lines of solid billet or jacket filler so as to not blow them completely apart. Cracking is certainly something to consider.
Also, it may be possible that the Thor can be cast without the jacket core in the mold (ie, cast as a solid head).

kjebba,
I do not know whether or not you are aware of the fact that the Pro-Filer 205 big block Ford heads are available WITHOUT water jackets. Here is link; http://www.profilerperformance.com/racing/cylinderheads/bbfheads

Re: BBF Billet Race Head ????????
Maybe I am alone here but, I would like to see a billet head like the newest "hedge" Pro-Stock FRPP head but, with the intake port entrances and flange changed slightly so a Blue Thunder "Thor" cast intake manifold would fit.

... i have seen the 2pc. Blue Thunder SBF manifold, what does the THOR intake look like ?? i didn't see it on Survival's website ??? ...

Re: BBF Billet Race Head ????????
The Thor intake is again a 2 piece intake, divided in half. It also has a seperate valley plate, so I guess we can call it a 3 piece. If this link works, it is the bottom picture on the first page. http://www.460ford.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116283&highlight=winter+tech+seminar

The only Problem I see with a solid billit head is that it is a pretty small client list, where if you built a wet head that would work for most racers it would have a much bigger client list and more uses.....JMHO

Take a look at bamberengineering.com and look at their billet hemi head
But for what application do you want to make that head? For blown alcohol like tractor pulling and promod drag racing it really has to be a hemi.
Re: BBF Billet Race Head ????????
... its looking like the Hemi is a popular vote so far ?? ...
