Cam timing?
Help!!! Need advice from you guys with dyno experience.
I need a recommendation for cam timing? The camshaft is
a Crane solid roller #358851 284/290@.050, .756"@1.8,
112 LC. Crane lists the Intake CL at 107 which indicates
it has 5* of advance already ground in. Using the 2*A
keyway it degrees in at 107 Int CL. Before Crane folded
up their Tech Rep suggested I install it at 102 Int CL
(another 5* advanced). I'm a little skeptical about moving
it up that far??? What have you guys learned on the dyno
moving camshaft phasing up and back? Should I leave it
in at 107???
Heres my application:
645 ci
14.3:1
Ported BT "B" heads
Hat injected alky
300 hp NOS
5000 stall convertor.
2 speed automatic racing trans (aka PG).
3000 lb 25.4 door car.
Many thanks,
Rich

Re: Cam timing?
personally I will not build another engine without putting a Danny Bee on it you can play with the cam timing in a few seconds and find the sweet spot, instead of having to disassemble the engine to change the cam timing.....

Re: Cam timing?
I played with cam timing on the dyno and my 605 thor motor picked up about 15hp & 20torque with an extra 3 degrees. I don't have a lot of dyno experience but I did do my homework on this subject before I tried it. One thing that everyone agreed on was you just don't know what the engine will like until you try it. Some have seen gains with more advance on the cam and gains with retarding the cam. I would set it what the card says for now and make sure there is room in the engine to move the cam timing around.

Re: Cam timing?
I wouldn't think that cam in your engine would not want to be advaned 5*....2*-3* should do it . 645"-alky-nos-14.3/1.....I'd think a wider lsa would be needed + more exhaust duration .
