Coil over Spring O.D.?
Does anyone know what the O.D. is on Qa1's 10-400? I am going to switch the front over to coil-overs and will be fabricating new towers for them and need to know what the max od is so I have clearance.
Here is a picture of the frame, as you can see the current spring/shock towers are HUGE. I want to make smaller towers which will make more room for outside the frame headers.

Sorry to get off topic.
Alan, while you have it stripped down to the frame. You need to open the hole in the drivers side crossmember for oil filter clearance. This way you can thread the filter directly onto the block. The exisiting hole needs opened to the front approx 1 1/2".
If you need, I can take a picture of mine and text it to you.

X2 on what Mike said!
I have some pics on my other computer of what one guy did to put coilovers on an a Ranger which would work for you as well. He took a Jegster lower coilover kit and trimmed the brackets that would normally go on the rearend to mount to the frame and then the upper mount were adjustable. This was for the front suspension just to be clear.

Re: Coil over Spring O.D.?
Good idea Eric. I hadn't thought about making the front adjustable, but it makes perfect sense. I guess what I'm going to have to do is go ahead and get the shocks and fab around them.
Good idea on the oil filter as well Mike, I have a couple of the right angle adapters laying around but may as well open that hole up some while the opportunity is there.
I am trying to decide how I am going to mount the motor. I have the 460 truck frame mounts and a set of steel blocks i made that replace the OEM rubber mount, but lately I have been considering mounting the motor with front and rear plates which would let me move the motor back and down a few inches.

Pictures are always helpful because once in a great while, someone has a better idea than me lol

I will see if I can transfer them or maybe shoot me an email and I can send them from my phone.

The bad thing I found about decent engine set back with that era truck is putting an air filter on it becomes a hassle even in stock location.

Thanks for the reminder about the filter. Another thing I had forgotten about... I ran into that with my pulling truck but solved that when we moved the engine forward.
I was considering a tunnel ram for this project but now you have me wondering if it will clear even in the stock location.

Re: Coil over Spring O.D.?
The main problem is the wiper cowl for a strictly track vehicle just trim out what you need to and run the tunnel ram.

Re: Coil over Spring O.D.?
Just sent you an email from my gmail account.
Yea, cutting it isn't a problem. I also have a new fiberglass wiper cowl for it and will be getting a fiberglass hood as well. After dad and I took the front clip off I was reminded of the weight in that, so now Im thinking I'll replace the core support with an aluminum one like I did on the puller, and then either gut the stock fenders or put fiberglass ones on. I'm also considering fiberglass doors since the left door is sprung pretty good and the right door is slightly sprung.

I talked with QA1 yesterday and found out that the springs are 3.5" o.d.
