Very impressive results BTW
A new ported tunnel ram with no top would be roughly $1500.
During this year, I am going to do a set of a more conservative spec and put those on a 598-605 for a test.
I also will "twist" a single 4 manifold.
Thanks,
Keith
I might know someone with a 598 for said test

Thank you...
The Interceptor head project is starting to get some attention. It looks like set #3 has been sold!
Better order more castings.....

Re: Keith Fulp's 618 A Head Interceptor
Awesome build Keith !!!! By the way thanks to you and the guys at Engine Systems for all the help on Jimmy's engine last week. I don't know if Ted told you it made 641 hp.

Re: Keith Fulp's 618 A Head Interceptor
Thanks!
Yeah...I had to cruise to make an appearance at home...
It was great seeing you guys. That is good HP for a mild fishing boat!
I need to grab the Zebco and come up there for a ride.
Next day, the old school 605 I was assembling made 949 HP.
Thanks for the clean dyno room...

Re: Keith Fulp's 618 A Head Interceptor
The calibration and development of the 618 is still in progress. I double entered the 58 in Super Gas and the 10.0 Index at last weekends Lucas Oil race at South GA Motorsports Patk. Since the 10.0 class prohibits timed throttle stops, I use a combination of restrictor plates, retarded timing, shift points, fuel mixture and extra weight to trim the car to the number.
I lost in round 2 of the S/G with a 9.88 breakout. The 58 went to the semi final round of 10.0 where I staged a little too deep and drew a -.013 red light. We both ran it out...he was 9.999 and I was 9.997. Even though his win light was on, it was a screaming good race....fun.
At 4000# the Interceptor would run 146 mph @10.0 with the timing way way retarded, shifting at 6200 and with 3" restrictor plates on the 4" Toilets. All other 10.0 Chevys run 132 to 135 mph. Still pulls hard on the big end.
Made another 16 trouble free runs on the engine. Oil still looks nice...car is getting used to the engine.
Now it is time to put the 3rd toilet on...and get it prepped for some 8.80...8.90 action.
May even install the throttle stop, remove the restrictor plates and make a 150++ 10.90 Super Street deal.
And the beat goes on....

Re: Keith Fulp's 618 A Head Interceptor
This is just a shameless bump. I am very proud of the performance of the Interceptor A460 deal.
This prick has over 100 trouble free passes.
It just hauls ass.
If I can ever hook it..may fly.
I may now look at the plugs and pull the valve covers.
Time to start on a 1274...1277 HP Ahead
Replacement. Need mo speed.

Re: Keith Fulp's 618 A Head Interceptor
Having trouble free passes certainly makes racing more fun. But having a 1200 N/A hp engine that reliable is awesome.
What has this beast done ET wise at the track?

Re: Keith Fulp's 618 A Head Interceptor
About a week ago at New England Raceway, it went 8.97 at 153 @ 3775#. I had it set up for the C/Gas 9.0 no electronics class and was carrying about 100# of ballast. If it had not been a rainy weekend with limited time runs, I would have liked to yanked all of the weight out to see if it would go in the 8.80s.psfracer wrote:Having trouble free passes certainly makes racing more fun. I am still working on optimizing the combustion chamber and a few aspects of my CNC program to get a few more beans out of this deal.
It is real nice running this thing round after round and only pulling the hood off to cool if I get in to a hot lap deal in late rounds. Other than that, the hood stays on all day.
Thanks,
keith

Re: Keith Fulp's 618 A Head Interceptor
Update....
I ran the Tri-Power 618 Interceptor at an 1/8 mile bracket race for kicks last weekend in Florida.
5.63 at 123 at about 3780#. I had 100# of ballast in the tail, so I might get a 5.60 on a good day with a tail wind.
The old mill still seems happy.
Time to change the oil, run the valves and turn it loose in 2014.

The holes in the lifter bushings (bores) don't serve as a restrictor in this application.
They can be from .125" to .187".
The restrictors for the lifter gallies are typically .065" to .080"
Thanks
Keith
Re: Keith Fulp's 618 A Head Interceptor
Hey Keith, forgive me if this question is out of line, but what would it cost to duplicate this engine, carb
to pan complete and ready to drop in?? It's an awesome build, glad to hear its still serving you well.
