Power Estimate? Empty Power Estimate?

Post  hot460 February 14th 2013, 8:51 pm

I have a 460 that was "built" by a local machine shop and was hoping someone could give me an estimate of what kind of horsepower and torque it would make. Here is as much as I know. The engine was in a '71 Lincoln Mark III, bored .030 over and it has D0VE C heads and forged pistons (balanced rotating assembly). Using Comp cams Magnum roller rockers. Valves are stainless and seats were reworked and enlarged some, but not sure of the sizes or spring specs. Exhaust ports were opened on the heads. Running an Edelbrock Performer intake (port matched) with a Holley 770 cmf Street Avenger carb and Holley 80 GPM fuel pump. Headers are Ford Powertrain Applications (shorties). Using a Pertronix Flame Thrower coil and Mallory Unilite distributor. Cam is an Ultradyne (now owned by Bullet) model 316000 grind no. FF 276/286-10H with these specs:

Duration at .050 221/230
Duration at .006 276/296
Lobe Lift .3100/.3027

I would appreciate anyone who knows enough about 460's giving me an estimate of the HP and torque it should make with this set-up. Thanks.

No idea ! What do you plan on doing with it ? Seems like a pretty good street set up! Cool

The engine is in a '72 Mark IV, a 5,000 lb. car. I am running a 3.50 Traction Lok rear end. The guy that built it told me it should make 400 hp but said it would make around 550 lbft of torque, which was what I need for this heavy car. It will light up a set of Michelins. I was hoping I'd hear that it made more HP. Someone asked about the heads and pistons. The heads were ported and pistons are flat top. Thanks for the comments.

One more thing on heads / pistons... The compression is 9.6:1. This engine was rated by the factory as having 365 bhp (SAE gross) with 10.5:1 compression. I'm wondering if Tennessee Bullitt's estimate is SAE net or if all the mods don't give you much improvement over stock.
