Stall Estimate??
Hey folks,
I have a converter that I bought that is 10.5". I'm not sure what the stall speed is and was wondering if anyone had an estimate? I paid a whopping $50 for it so I couldn't turn it down lol!!!
The stock 12.5" stalled around 1200rpm.
Its behind a 500ish hp 466, C6, in an 80 Futura.

Re: Stall Estimate??
If it is a 10.5 then it was probably built using the 265 Northstar core. They only come with 2 type of pump covers, tight and tighter, and depending on the stator, which is a n 18 blade piece, they are usually a very efficient converter. I would guess the approx. stall to be around 2200-2500 in the car. If it has a modified after market stator with a better window design and some blading done on the pump cover it will stall higher, how much? Tough to say , too many variables. Are there any stampings on the converter anywhere?

Thanks for the reply Lenny!
I haven't seen any stampings, its been painted a couple times. It looks like it was yellow and then black over that.
I guess I'll just have to try it and see lol!! That is the stall range I am looking for. If not, I'll send it to you for a tune up!!

Re: Stall Estimate??
Man, you nailed it Lenny!! it stalls right at 2100-2200 rpm.
I've never ran this engine with a higher stall converter and it likes it!! Seems to pull better and is much less prone to detonation.
Thanks again for the help!!
