exhaust systems
Hi guys,
I´m currently putting parts and setup together (with Lem, thanks a lot!) for my 521 street-build. right now I´m wondering which exhaust (system) would be the "best" for my application. Do I need to go 3" or is a good (what is good???) 2.5" system ok too?
I didn´t really care about exhaust until now so I would need your help there.
My build will be a 521 with about 650hp, SCJ heads, stealth intake, etc.. and will be used 95% on street
Cheers
Franz

Re: exhaust systems
3 inch minimum and a straight through muffler for best performance. Chambered muffles are somewhat restrictive unless sized about 1 1/2 sizes bigger.
You can go quiet and smaller but your power will be hurt.

Re: exhaust systems
I have a VERY similar build and I am running 3" exhaust with an X pipe with hooker aerochamber mufflers dumped at the rear axel. It sounds awesome but loud.

Not to hijack this thread, but how much would it have an effect on performance? Reason I ask is I have chambered mufflers, they were a gift, not really my choice.

Re: exhaust systems
I have seen a 2 tenths drop at the track on a 450 hp small block. As far as hp just a guess 20.

I would run this system with a 521 but not dumped. Run rear 3" pipes and you will drop some of the noise that a dumped system generates.

Re: exhaust systems
Put as big of pipes as you can fit IMO 3" is a minimum at 650hp level for a full exhaust.
I like Magnaflow mufflers, they have worked very well on my EMC stuff.

Thank god I was doubting
So the only available complete system for a street driven ´69 Mustang is the 3" Magnaflow?
